i have 1997 Monterey air bags do not inflate.
« on: November 12, 2019, 03:54:10 AM »
So i look it up in owners manual and it says " Press"air" and the light will come onsteady. When pressing air the second timethe light will flash. The steady light indicates
that the leveling is complete."
Question is why no air gauges to loook at? where is this button you push? anyone have picture of thier 1997 monterey
dash or the location? The coach is in northern az. i want to go up bring it back but when i started it in storage no air bags aired up and i am at a loss as to where and what needs to be done
to make this work.

Thanks
Rick

Rick,
Can you post a picture of your level control panel?

Rick,
The 97 Brochure indicates the Monterey had Reyco air suspension. Most coaches have 1 or 2 air gauges on the dash so one can monitor the air brake status. Not sure about yours. The air suspension panel for Beavers is normally located on the console to the left of the driver. It normally contains the indicator lights that show status.

Thanks Steve,

Well what i quoted is from the owner's manual that came with the rig. Shouldn't the air bags start to inflate uopn starting the engine. My owners manual shows no air gauges period. This is why i am so confused other mtr hms i have had have air gauges. Are the brakes on this air brakes or hydraulic ?

This shouldn't be such a big deal really! Seems the Monterey has different guages etc than all the rest of Beaver Motorhomes.

Thanks Rick

The specs for your 97 Montery says it has the Magnum S-series (Blue Streak) chassis which came with either the "Ellipti-Ride or the "Reyco Air suspension" - so yours has the Reyco (air bags). The chassis manual also hints that there should be an air pressure gauge.

You have hydraulic brakes.

Rick,
The 96 Monterey Owner's Manual and Supplement in Coach Assist shows no air gauge since, as Mike noted, you have hydraulic brakes. The supplement shows 2 15A fuses in the front bay that could be the source of your issue; F15 (leveling system) and F17 (Air Dryer and Air Solenoid). The suspension should air up automatically at engine start if system is working. Also I didn't see any indication of a switch or light related to the suspension (but I did a fairly quick scan). I'm surprised that your owners manual or supplement doesn't cover this and show locations.

Steve ,

Thanks again for your help. Well i guess all i can do is drive 150 miles up there and look it over. If i cant get airbags up than  it is a wasted trip plus it's cold haha..

Thanks Rick

In the Coach Assist section, there is a 1996 Monterey Air System diagram (part copied below).

Note that there is a "quick disconnect" port on the air tank. So if you don't have an air pressure gauge on the dash, you can buy an air pressure gauge (like 0-150 psi) and a matching quick disconnect coupler and plug it into the tank to verify the air pressure. If you are building up air pressure to 120 psi then move to the next troubleshooting step. If your not getting full air pressure then check for a bad air compressor governor, problems with air compressor, external leak, etc.

Good luck
