Hydro Hot smokes for 3-4 minutes when burner fires and re-fires
« on: November 14, 2019, 02:54:13 PM »
H-Hot works fine but continues to smoke ( blue smoke) for 3 to 4 minutes at each start up and when burner re-fires.
I contacted Roger B but he told me to send him my burner head for check-out.   Not practical for a full-timer.

The following have been replaced ;  nozzle, filter, fuel solenoid, fuel pump, flame sensor, fuel pressure checked and found at 145 psi.
As a last resort, I borrowed and installed a confirmed working control box and control board.
Still getting smoke for 3-4 minutes.

Has anyone had an issue like this ?
Not sure what else I can do to correct.
Any ideas ?

It was suggested long ago by John Carrillo in Indio that I should wash out the soot from the exhaust pipe when cleaning the burner tube. He said the carbon (soot) can get wet in the elbow as it exits from diesel on initial start before flame. Just don't do it while on your cement driveway. Your bride will not be happy with the mess, and all that can be said to your bride is "Oops."

Jim,
How did you wash out exhaust pipe ?  Did you disconnect exhaust pipe ?
Put hose or pressure washer in pipe ?
Thanks

Darrell, It sounds like the combustion chamber has not been cleaned. If you remove the Wabasto unit, you can reach into the unit and pull the metal canaster out, about 4 to 5" around. It is about 12 to 14" long. If it is melted or distorted you will have replace it. When you remove it, clean with spray carb cleaner until clean. Reinstall and then the wabasto unit. You will have to run the unit for 1/2 hour or longer to burn off all the residual stuff downstream of the combustion chamber to clean.

With the burner tube removed you have a straight shot at the exhaust pipe.  Just use the spray nozzle on the hose.

"Just use the spray nozzle on the hose."

Another thing that's fun is cleaning the batteries over a nice concrete driveway!
