Hankook tires
« on: June 30, 2020, 04:14:14 AM »
We are planning on buying 6 tires for our 40 foot 1989 Marquis.  We are seriously considering the Hankook 275/70R/22.5. Our rig total weight is about 34000 empty. Would appreciate feedback regarding size, load rating and general opinion regarding Hankook. We have no slides. Thanks Beaver family.

Ted,
What load range are you considering? Without knowing the weights on all 4 corners of your fully loaded coach it is difficult to give a recommendation. In general, Hankook gets good reviews from RV owners. Consider reading "Tire Inflation Guidelines" in Common Problems on the Private BAC Members Only board. It has some good info re tires.

Ted, If you are in the Wash-Or area, a quick way to get your coach's axle weights is to stop by a state truck weigh station that is closed. You'll see these weight stations along the freeways as well as secondary roads. If not in use at the time, I'll pull in, the scale readout is always on. Set your front axle on the scale and write down the reading, do the same with the rear axle and you then have the info you need for your tire purchase. Check your state DOT for weighing locations. I like the ones on secondary roads, not much traffic. Welcome!

Ted,
To add to Bill's advice. While getting front and rear axle weight is helpful, the actual corner weights are critical. In each of the coaches I've owned there has been a difference of over 1000 lbs between corners on one of the axles. That can make a big difference in load range selection. If possible when weighing, after weighing the axle, maneuver the coach so only on corner is on the scales. Also have the coach fully loaded.

I went to Pete,s Tires in Coachella, CA intending to by Michelin’s. I was talked out of spending the $5K plus (40 foot Monaco) in favor of the equivalent Hankooks at around $2700.

I was worried about durability and ride quality versus the Michelin’s. Sold the Monaco too soon to form an opinion on durability, but found the ride quality to be about the same as the Michelin’s.  Would buy the Hankooks again, without hesitation.
