Title: Wiper blades - correct sizes
Post by: Joel Weiss on January 22, 2013, 04:59:35 PM
Does anyone know what size wiper blades would have been originally mounted on my MH?  When I replaced them last year I used 26" blades because that was what was on it when I bought it.  But the Beaver-logo wiper covers I inherited are several inches longer and there sure is plenty of unwiped windshield.  Standard blades appear to go to at least 28" but that caused me to question if there really is a correct size?

My blades are size 32" and most auto stores do NOT carry the large sizes I found.  In addition when I purchased the 32" size at Camping World they were not satisfactory in that they DON'T perform well on curved windshields.
I finally ended up replacing the arms so that I could use the boomerang style blade that curves and maintains contact with the curvature of the windshield.  You can get the boomerang blades from TruVision from their website.  Keep in mind that they require a blade arm that conforms to the blade attachment mechanism.

I use 28" Goodyear blades purchased at Costco and they work fine on my '03 Monterey. I don't know if a larger blade than that would fit at all.

Joel,
Your 2000 model Thunder should be running 28" wiper blades.

Consider Boomerang blades.  Ours do a heck of a lot better job clearing the glass with each swipe than our original ones did.  Downside, they ain't cheap.

If you opt for them, be sure to get the right ones for your rig, and access them via the BAC's Home page Amazon portal.

Can anyone quote a direct replacement they've used for the blade itself (it attaches with nut and bolt to the arm).

My current blades are 24in, but is that the stock size?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
I use 24" on ours. Tru Vision blades show 24" as standard thru the 02 model year. 03-05 spec 28" blades.
I tried 28" blades (not Boomerangs) on our 01 Contessa but they left uncovered areas as they didn't conform to the windshield curvature.

We had 24 inch blades on our 2002 Marquis when we picked it up from BCS, they looked like new blades and they worked quite well. As a maintenance item after 3 years I replaced them having learned that 28 inch were possibly the original size but they do not wipe the surface as well from the time we put them on. Just not enough pressure along the length of the blade to follow curved areas. If I had to do it over I would go back to 24 inch unless there were good reports that 26 inch also work quite well. These current ones are Trico from O'Reilly if I remember right. The 28 inch Boomerang may be the solution if you did not mind the cost.

Joel, I think that you posted using 26 inch, how do they do at following the windshield curves?

Bought ours from B C S.  Tried costco variety but they were terrible.  Larry in Beaver parts suggested 26 inch but I went to the next size up.  I believe these are 28 inch and work great.  Worth the extra cost!

I'm using plain old Trico's or equivalent bought from Walmart.  Tried the RainX blades, a lot more expensive, and their built-in curvature was more than the wiper arms could handle so they didn't flatten out against the windshield.    The cheap ones work just fine unless there's a strong crosswind at just the right angle.  After my experience with the RainX blades I'd be reluctant to try the Boomerang ones at those prices.

Joel, and all,

I went with the Tricos found here - http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRICO-68-241-Wiper-Blade-for-RV-Bus-Commercial-Truck-24-Vented-HD-Wiper-/300939130500

I found this part number on another Ebay ad that specifically listed my coach.  I suppose "Vented" means they might shed wind.  We'll see.  I've not used wipers much, and had ignored mine as they began to disintegrate but now they just look too bad to be on this fine coach. :)

Thanks for all the help, once again!

The Trico blades that Mike posted are the ones that I got from O'Reilly in 28 inch that do not work as well as I like following the windshield curve. I had those same Trico blades in 24 inch and they worked well for the curve but larger would be better. Has anyone used that same Trico blade in 26 inch and if so did they flatten enough to follow the contour and wipe well?
