I need help & advice! We have family in Ridge Long Island we wish to visit, but I cannot seem to find a pemissible route out to Long Island New York! It seems that every route entails a bridge and/or tunnel that does not permit RVs with propane, etc.. Is it really impossible to drive a class A motorhome out to Long Island? I am using apps like the GoodSam Trip Planner, RV Parky, and even have purchased the RandMcNalleys Motor Carrier's Road Atlas used by truckers, but can't figure out how to get out on to Long Island.
What am I missing? How do goods get trucked out to Long Island if they don't have routes for big trucks?

P.S. The GoodSam RV Trip Planner online application has an option that provides "RV Warnings" at points along the routes, and indicates things like: Low Clearance, No Propane Allowed, No RV Allowed, etc.. . The Motor Carrier's Road Atlas also provides information on Low Clearances and other big truck restrictions. Researching the highway department's online information provides additional additional information on rules for traveling with propane on certain roads through tunnels, over bridges, etc. (e.g., cylinders must be disconnected and sealed shut with an inspection permit from the applicable highway authority). As for private RV parks, GoodSam only shows two for the whole of Long Island; and very few of the several public state and county parks allow pets.

Can you reference where you are finding the rules?
I quick check found campgrounds and rv rentals on Long Island. RVs get there somehow! Maybe on the freeway?

I would call my family and have them find the nearest suitable RV park, then I would call the park for directions. Do not plan on going on any road labeled Parkway and most have very low overpasses.

I know you are not an oversize load but you might do a search for companies that provide escorts for oversize loads in NYC or Long Island. They definitely know the best way through the area. Having moved many large loads through town you might find less traffic if you go after midnight. If one thought traffic was bad in Atlanta or LA you have never tried to navigate NYC.

Haven't been where you are going but I took a look with RV Trip wizard and this is what I found:
I assume you are trying to get to Wildwood State Park @ 790 Hulse Landing Rd, Wading River, New York 11792. It looks like the closest viable park for your destination, the implied route looks like I-95 NJ turnpike over the GW bridge. Because of Propane restrictions you will be required to take the upper level You will want to route through the Bronx on the Cross Bronx expressway to I-295 S and into Queens where you pick up I-495 onto Long Island probable exit is William Floyd Pkwy to Sound Ave (25a)to NY-54
If it were me I would try to do this on a Sunday morning and turn off your propane tank before you exit the NJ turnpike. General height restrictions on this route are 13' 6"

RV Trip Wizard doesn't factor in coach weight, height or length. It's just a "Google Maps" with campsite locations added. It may be a useful tool, bit follow up with a trucker's atlas or RV mapping program.

RV Trip Wizard does address height restrictions and the route suggested is interstate until you are within 5 miles of the campground. I- 95 aka Trans Manhattan Expressway / Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95 /I-295 ) to -Throgsneck Bridge to Clearview Expressway (I-295) to I-495 Long Island Expressway are all designated as New York City interstate routes approved for 53 foot trailers. The only other option is Verrazano Bridge to the Brooklyn Qweens Expressway to Long Island Expressway between the two routes I would probably use the GW

Yes it can be done. I did it a few years ago. Not as bad as one might think. If you get lost...STAY OFF ALL PARKWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( Northern and Southern state, run east west, there are a few that run north south) They have been purposely designed with low bridges to prevent truck traffic.
