Title: Hydro Hot

I have the older Hydro Hot with the large cap on the unit. It looks as if the rubber seal on the cap is cracked and starting to leak. Can the seal be replaced and it so where can I but one. If I have to replace the cap is there any place besides Hydro Hot to buy one. I replaced it once before and it is high priced.

Yes, it is not something readably available but if you look on the cap, there is a letter and number.  Either google that radiator cap number X-X and see if it comes up or call a large radiator company and they should be able to get it for you.  Still about $50.00 as I can best remember.  I think they are about $90.00 from Aqua-Hot.

I got one at Bob Jones RC in Houston a number of years ago. PPL might also have one. Could also try Sure Marine in Seattle.

Mine has the same issue. I could not justify spending the money on the cap. Gave it a liberal coat Ofsilicon rubber sealer for now. If you find the gasket only let us know.

Same problem.  Didn't leak until replacing the high-temp thermostat and had to drain down the boiler.  First refill overflowed like the dickens!!!  Had broken the 12 year old seal between cap and gasket...

Carefully lifted rubber gasket off intact.  Used Dremel with wire brush and grinder to clean out the rust on the bottom of the cap where the gasket seats.  The cap is very sturdy -thick- and can take the grinding with no problem. 

Meanwhile treated the gasket with Dap sealant.  Used Permatex black Form-A-Gasket on cap underside and slipped gasket back on before returning to tank top and applying gentle pressure screwing on about half way to let the Form-A-Gasket set up for a couple of hours.  Then tightened down the cap and refilled. 

Has been leak proof now for six months.  Marked the overflow tank with tape and marker at fluid level.  Level has decreased by less than 1/4 inch with full time use over that time.
