I have a 2001 Patriot Thunder 425 with cat C-12 equipped with an Onan generator Model 7.5HDKAJ11451G. When trying to start the gen it will not crank but I hear clicking (what I think is) to the solenoid.
I check the Operator's Manual troubleshooting step by step and received Fault Code 22 Governor Actuator Overload Fault. The A/C unit are off and appliances are off. The coach chassis batteries are charged as they will start engine.
Thank you for any help.

My Onan 10K sporadically does the same thing on my coach. I have found that if I wait a few minutes and try again, the gen cranks and starts as normal. Also, I find sometimes that if I fully extend the gen slide and use the direct start switch on the gen, it will usually crank. I have thought perhaps I am losing pressure in the fuel line? Not sure and it’s hard to diagnose as it doesn’t seem to do it all the time.

If it starts with the battery boost switch depressed you are not getting enough voltage/current to the generator from the chassis batteries. Check / clean the battery connections at the generator and batteries.

Check the ground at the chassis
get it clean and shiny
put some dielectric grease on it and reinstall
Worked for me

Mick, Does it make any difference if the coach engine is running or off, might be your chassis battery's are getting weak. On my 06 Patriot Thunder the positive and negative cables were to small, I replaced them with single O welding cable. Also the cables were much too long. These Onan generators take some muscle to start.

Well that solved that problem.
