When I turn on my water pump (Shurflow 2088) while not connected to city water, the pump dose not surge with all faucets closed - I don't have any external leaks.
But when I run the water (shower or faucets) the pump surges about every second or two seconds. The water comes out in surges rather than a steady flow. I'm expecting the pump to run steady and provide a steady stream of water.
What is causing this? Bad pump?

Perhaps a clogged inlet filter, but I bet you've already checked that.

Nothing obvious with the filter. Maybe it's time for a pump rebuilding kit.

Mike, in our Shurflo model #4048 you can adjust the shut off pressure with a 5/ 64 Allen wrench by turning it clockwise which should stop the rapid recycling. The pressure switch is located on the front of the pump. Suggest very small increments to test.

Mike, from what you state, it sounds like the pump is catching up and building enough pressure to cycle off then back on which means the pump is meeting the demand. To prove this open 2 or 3 fixtures at the same time and see if the pump keeps up. You may want to check all the aerators for possible restrictions. Hope this helps, Fred
