Technical Support / Re: Hurricane heat exchanger fitting
« Last post by Carl Boger on May 07, 2024, 06:13:24 PM »
Just to follow up,

I just got off of the phone with ITR, the new company who acquired/merged from  Hurricane heating and they stated that they could not ID the Heat exchanger and do not have any support for that type of fitting.

If I have a problem in the future I will likely simply change out the heat exchanger for a different one that does use regular NPT fittings.  ITR said they could get the newer heat exchangers for me and it could be plumbed in with PEX for ease of maintenance.

Thanks for any help, but unless someone has a few in stock I don't think I will be spending any more time trying to run them down

Thanks everyone. I have not done the dish soap solution spray, but I should. Strangely, this has been an ongoing and progressively worse issue, but I re-set and leveled the coach 3 days and it hasn't moved. Should we get to replacement stage, I appreciate the help with the part number and other recommendations.

Bill,
Disregard my previous inputs. The 06-09 Marquis and Patriot Thunders with the RR10-S chassis used the Continental AS8897 or Firestone W01-358-8897 bags in all 10 positions. My error was thinking the Patriot and Thunders used the same chassis.
(I've removed the list I posted earlier and will repost when I get it corrected).

Richard mentions checking for the leak with soap water and spray bottle.  I agree, we had a leak and fount it was the air line to the towed connect which had been run between frame rails and got mashed.  Easy fix but not if you dont have proper blocking and jack stands.  You can get mashed.
We now have an air spring that is bad at Passanger rear. Should be ‘Wo13589376’.  I put that number just like that in Google search and got a variety of suppliers and prices.  Will still check the number on the bag to verify.  Good luck.

You are correct.  Those are not NPT threads.  NPT threads are tapered. Those threads will be parallel threads.  Probably either NPSM or NPSC.  Those components rely on pressuring the two tapered seated pieces together.  Those are commonly used to connect gas lines.

Technical Support / Hurricane heat exchanger fitting

Can anyone tell me what size the fitting is that goes to the heat exchanger above the seaward hot water heater.  It seems to be a 3/4 inch union that takes a 90 degree turn and downsizes to 1/2 inch copper.  My only problem is the thread size.  It doesn't appear to be NPT.

I just repaired this and it is not currently leaking, but I would like to have some spare parts available or better change to fitting to pex fittings to make it easier to repair in the future.

Does anyone know the size and thread pitch of the top union?  It seems to be a little finer thread than NPT.

Thanks Carl

Have you verified that it is actually the air springs that are leaking?  Most air leaks are traced back to air line leaks, ride height valve leaks or (if you have air leveling) the air leveling manifolds.  The air springs do wear out and leak, but they are not the most common items.  Have you sprayed everything with soap solution to determine what's leaking?

I've read the many threads on air bags unfortunately none that specifically talk about the 2007 Patriot Thunder. We have a fairly significant leak that has a listing to the driver's side after 3 days in camp. Does anyone know if the air bags that are installed on the 2007 are different from the 2006 and prior? Any recommendation on places to acquire new bags? I am searching for a an installer near Salt Lake City, but have not ruled on doing the job myself. Any and all advice welcome. Thanks

Peter, Kaiser Brake and alignment made and replaced the 5 front torque bars on our 2001 patriot thunder ,made a world of difference. They are in Eugene,Oregon. I highly recommend them.

Eric, thanks. The mechanic got it working, but it looks terrible. I'm sure that you are right about it having been worked on before. Those rivets are definitely not original. At this stage I'm thinking that I'll take the trim pieces to an upholstery shop to have re-worked. Thanks again.
