Title: Roof issues
Post by: Michael Rump on April 23, 2015, 02:28:24 PM
Good morning,

Was thinking about taking an unused satellite dish off the roof.

What is the best way to fill in the holes in the roof to prevent leakage?  What sealant should be used for roof issues such as sealing around vent pipes?

Thank you!

I did a search here in the Forum for "Dicor self" and found this advice:

The search provided many messages to read.  This is just one of them.

Mike,
Dicor flow grade self-leveling sealant is the product of choice for your application, and it is widely available.

Mike, previous owner had removed Datron dish - maybe by a branch  :-[!  Anyway, the area now has a total of 5 rectangular patches only 'glued' down, no screws or rivets with edges sealed with Dicor - no leaks.

BTW: if you do remove the dish, I would be interested in acquiring same, my email address is the member list.

on my 98 Patriot the dish had a metal plate under it for some wiring. It also had a cable running back to the middle of the coach from the front cap. I had to fill all those holes and I used a 2 part product for boat fiberglass that worked great and the plate under the dish was about 2 x 4" and was screwed on only two corners. I glued it down with epoxy then covered it with dicor liquid roof coating. It worked very well. Only problem was I shoved all the wires back inside the coach so if I ever wanted satellite again I would have to open the roof and pull wires out again.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and comments.

Frank,

If I proceed with removal of the dish, I will let you know about the details (size, model and the shape it is in).  It was used for high speed internet service.

Best regards,

You can use Eternabond Tape and then finish the edges with Dicor self leveling sealant.

Total repair cost about $20.00.
