How long does it take for the Hurricane system to generate hot water? I'm running city water directly into the system. The cold water feels cold, the hot not quite so cold ... but a long way from hot! The red hose running from the hot water system into output is very warm.
I apologize for the dumb questions and thank you for your response!!

I need to learn to be more patient. After about 15 minutes, the hot water arrived.

Lawrence,
Not sure if your coach has this, but if you have a "Coach Heat" switch on the console to the left of the driver, turning it on while driving will let the engine heat your hot water.

Lawrence,
The switch described by Steve is labeled "preheat" on our 98 Contessa and it turns on the circulation pump in the Hurricane system that will circulate the boiler fluid thru the heat exchanger back next to the engine as well as the hot water tank and the heat radiators (if the valves are set to operate the heat radiators). So in warm weather, if you turn on the switch, you may want to make sure you have the valves set only for the "short" circuit of just the hot water tank and not the "long" circuit that includes the heat radiators.

Thanks, Grant. According to the manual, there should be two valves in the Hurricane compartment for setting to heat/water or water only -- winter and summer modes. I cannot see any such valves. Any idea of where they may be located?
-
On my coach, both valves are in the compartment with the Hurricane just to the left of the Hurricane unit itself, right in the open and accessible.
-
Thanks. The only valve I see is about 15 inches deep on the top of the Hurricane box (see pix below). On my remote switch, there are three options: cool, off and furnace. Is it possible Hurricane substituted this switching option for the valves?
-
Larry,
On most coaches, the valves are in the engine bay (under your bed).

This is the inside of my Hurricane / hot water heater bay. The valves to the left are the ones we are talking about correct ??
-
Does your coach have an engine access hatch between the bed and rear closet? if it does, the valves are located in that general area. Fred
-
It does not appear to. The only access I've known is under the bed but I'm still very new to this stuff.
-
Somewhere in the bed area UNDER the floor are 2 valves with heater hoses going to them, The owners manual will tell which way the handles point. Mine says "verticle" for winter and "horizontal for summer operation. Fred
-
Fred did you look at my pictures ?? Don't you think that's what those valves are in the bay ?? If not what do you think those valves are for in there?
-
I think they are for "winterizing" the hurricane heater, not real sure on your coach. Fred
-
Matt,
I'm pretty sure those are the valves in question. Key is that one must be on and the other one off, which is the configuration yours are in. I've never seen them in this location (which is a heck of a lot more convenient than the normal engine compartment location).

Matt, Steve is right, I did not look at the photo before making my statement, Those are the valves I believe that control the heating loop thru the interior heat exchangers. Sorry for the confusion. Fred

Thanks guys..

Another thing to look out for is the spray nozzle in the water manifold area. If the hot and cold faucets are on you will only get lukewarm water.
