Technical Support / Re: Cruise control and secondary brake switch
« Last post by Steve Huber Co-Admin on August 01, 2024, 10:13:36 PM »
Bob,
The only other brake light switch in the CC circuit is the turn signal switch which should not impact the CC circuit. Look at the 2005 Patriot or 2006 Monterey wiring diagrams in Coach Assist for the brake light and CC circuits. The 05 Monterey diagrams are very hard to read but the 05 Pat and 06 Monti are the same so will reflect the 05 Monti model year. It could be the  smart wheel clock spring that is causing the issue. There is a connector (C35 on the diagram) located in the steering column where you can access the CC on/off signal from the smart wheel to see if the clock spring is OK

Technical Support / Cruise control and secondary brake switch
« Last post by Bob Disney on August 01, 2024, 09:00:49 PM »
2005 36' Monterey IV
We had a scan done while in Quartzite last winter trying to find why our cruise quit working
the results said that a secondary brake light switch was faulty
I  must be blind because I just cant seem to find it
Any help would be great, been without cruise fir the last 20,000 miles.
Really miss it
Thanks

Should have stated that all the brake lights work as required

Technical Support / Re: ABS and ATC dash lights on

Eric,

This is very, very helpful information.  The front and drive axels are disk.  The tag axel is a drum brake.

Thanks again.

That is the sensor with the wires coming out the end of it , if you use a punch and a hammer a light tap should be all that's needed to move it in
Tap on the edge of the collar where the wires go in not the wires it will only move at most 3/16 of an inch.
It shouldn't take to much force to make them move however if the mounts are very rusty  the sensors may be seized in the housings and won't move it sometimes can require dismantling of the brake and hub assembly to gain access in this case removal unfortunately destroys the sensor which means replacing with a new sensor.

After looking at your pictures again it appears they are drum brakes in which case those sensors are likely mounted to the axle on the hub side of the brake spider which may require the brake drum removal to gain access
In this case it's best to retrieve the abs codes to determine which sensor is the problem.

I was able to get under the coach today.  I believe I identified the sensor wire going into each of the axel housings. steering, drive, and tag.  What is unclear to me is how I gain access to the sensor to tap it back into place.

Thoughts or suggestions?

Technical Support / Re: C9 CAT t'stat housing frozen bolt

Don,
The pin is the "jiggle pin". It goes into the small thermostat. One end of it should be slightly flattened so it will drop into the top of the stat and not fall out. Without it you will have cooling problems.

OK, that makes sense. Sure would like to know where that nice shiny SS pin came from before I try to button this up??? Again, thanks for all the info and support. Don

Don,
Most large diesel engines have dual thermostats to control engine temp at various loads. Under light loads the lower temp one opens to ensure the engine is operating in the normal temp, ~ 185-204F for the C9. When the engine is put under heavy load, e.g pulling a grade, the larger t'stat opens to increase fluid flow and keep the temp close to normal temps.

Technical Support / Changing odometer from kilometers to miles
« Last post by Greg Ross on July 27, 2024, 11:37:12 PM »
A friend with a 2007 Contessa,(he forgot his password) had some work done on his 2007 Contessa and the odometer now reads kilometers instead of miles, he does not want to go back to the service provider as he is unhappy with there work on yhe coach.
Does anyone know how to change the odometer back to miles?
Thanks
Greg

Hi everyone. thanks for all the suggestions. As luck would have it, heat was not an option since I would have had to remove the A/C compressor to get at the block where the threads are. No room to swing a hammer either, but a brand new Milwaukee 18v impact gun got it out. Turns out Cat forgot anti seize on the last bolt??? everything is now apart, but I found a small SS pin about 3/4" long by 1/8" dia when I pulled the housing off. Don't see where it could be from. T'stats don't appear to have anything missing. Also why 1 large and 1 small t'stat? Thank you, Don .
