Title: Lippert Step
Post by: Greg Ross on April 10, 2017, 11:07:16 PM
Our 2008 Contessa with a Lippert step has a hard time retracting, it tries to retract and then bounces open a bit and then tries to retract again, after a couple of bounces it fully retracts.
The switch( I think a reed switch) senses the retracted step but it does not stop the motor.
I do not have a good wiring diagram and so wonder if a relay is slow to open/close but do not know.

Greg,
This may be of help (from Common Problems under Technical tab of BAC website). Lippert owns SCS and Kwickee, which used a magnetic reed switch.

Greg
on the door jamb are two round magnetic switches.  Just like those two there is one more on the frame of the step up underneath.  This one stops the retracting when the step is closed.
The maintenance program is a simple cleaning of the tracks with a bit of soap and a strong stream of water.  On our step someone had lubricated the tracks which attracted dirt etc.  This was the cause of ours doing just what you describe.  Clean the tracks real good a couple times and rag off the magnetic switch underneath.
I also used a small wire brush on the tracks because they had become corroded.
Hope this works as well for you as it did for us!

This is an update on the problem we had with our Lippert steps bouncing retract/open when the door closes.
the problem was the motor, found a similar problem posted on another forum.
