Title: Broken tag axle shocks
Post by: Bill Laatz on July 30, 2015, 12:41:57 PM
I have broken both Bilstein shock absorbers on the tag axle, one the upper loop, the other the upper loop and the shaft.  I have replaced the four front axle shocks with Koni, and used two of the removed Bilsteins to replace the broken tag axle shocks.  What would have caused this?  I raise the tag when making a sharp turn.  My driveway to road exit from home is at an angle, and I raise the entire suspension to avoid dragging the hitch, could this cause a problem?  2006 Beaver Marquis with 39,000 miles.

Bill, I had the same kind of failure last year on one of the tag shocks. I just put a 2 new ones on. I stayed with the originals. FYI did you know they have a lifetime warranty.

I was told by a Bilstein rep that the original shocks would have to be warranty by the coach manufacturer, and that Bilstein would only cover after market replacements with the owners.  If you have a contact to get a warranty replacement on a Beaver shock please let me know.

You are correct the replacements would have the lifetime warranty not the originals. I think that Koni also offers the same program.
