Title: Help! Generator and engine won't start
Post by: Michelle Jensen on April 13, 2021, 02:19:42 AM
We have a 1998 Beaver Patriot and now a power issue.  We just pulled in to stop for the night here in Indio CA.  I turned on the generator and then the AC.  Everything was working great for about 10 min then all of a sudden the generator cut out.  At first we thought it was a generator issue only to discover the engine won't start [even with the battery boost]  everything else in the house works just fine except the front step and we can not slide out the generator.  I'm hoping we just tripped something ???? Up until now we've had no problems running the generator or the AC. It's after 5p so we can't contact a professional for help until tmrrw but it is a bit hot here and it would be great to cool the house down if one of you have any suggestions.

Thanks so much
-Michelle

Under your bed on the front fire wall there are two large 250 amp fuses one for coach power and the other for chassis power it sounds like the chassis power fuse is blown as that fuse also starts the gen set.
Check that came the connections at the chassis batteries.
Hope this helps
Eric

Hello Eric thanks for replying.  We have the bed up and are looking for the fuses.  Is the front firewall at the end of the bed where we lift it?  We honestly don't recognize anything as a fuse ???

Yes you will see the battery isolator ( blue finned thing) and two solenoids . The fuses are about 1/2 an inch wide by 2 1/2 inches long and are held with a bolt stud at each end with battery cables connected to them.

yours may be grey or white in colour.

Hope this helps

Ok.  I've attached a pic of the blue part and the two solenoids I believe you are talking about.  Sorry, still not recognizing the fuses.

Hey I just found it!  Ours are yellow  is there a way to know which one is the house and which is the chassis?

The white things onec just to the left of the blue isolator and the second tongue lower right of the isolator.
In my last post I included a link with a picture of an ANL fuse that one is black yours are white.

The one to the left of the isolator is the chassis power supply
The lower right one is the coach power supply and has a cable over to the salesman solenoid next to it lower right.

Your welcome my friend.
To check out the fuse you can use a volt meter or test light there should be power on both sides if it's good
Also the oval window on the front of it should show the fuse element inside if it's not too dirty sometimes the window will be black if the fuse is blown.

It was the 250 ANL Fuse.  Not a single place in the Palm Desert area carried them. Everyone carried the 200 ones though one. I tried one that I bought at a stereo store blew immediately even though it technically was a 250 fuse.  We ended up putting in a 200 Fuse just so we could run the generator until the part arrived 4 days later.  Thanks Eric so much for your help!!!
