Title: Magnum Chassis Speedometer
Post by: Rick Daniels on May 14, 2016, 03:15:24 PM
My coach sits on a Magnum Blue Diamond Chassis D-Series, which I believe is/was a division of SMC.  The speedometer quit working but the odometer and trip meter still works.  It appears the Speedometer was private labeled for Magnum.  Does anyone know who made the speedometer for Magnum.  Better yet, does anyone know if there is a simple troubleshoot process or reset procedure so I can attempt to fix the problem on my own.  I searched the forum and found some information on VDO guages but mine does not appear to be VDO.  I checked the Magnum Chassis manual and all it said was that the speedometer indicates speed, total mileage and trip mileage.  Sure glad I read that. As always, thanks for any help.

Rick,
I am almost positive that the speedo in your coach was made by VDO. There will be a VDO speedometer repair facility in most major cities, but I am not sure that Montana has any of those.

If the odometer is reading and the speedometer is not, there is almost no chance that you can do anything other than removing the speedometer, and have it repaired or replaced.

Another option migh be to just use the Silverleaf.  Ours is fairly accurate and easier to read.

Try calling Northwest RV Supply in Eugene, Or. 1-866-678-7467. They may have a replacement that will work.

I will pursue all of the suggestions in hopes of a resolution.  As I indicated in my original post, the instrument must be private labeled as both the tachometer and speedometer have "MAGNUM" printed on the face.  I would guess, getting a replacement to match the tachometer would be wishful thinking. I know I can get a black face but doubt they would label it the same.  Must be the old Marine in me to want things to look right.  Probably have to replace both to meet that objective.  Thanks all for the input.

Rick,
May want to try these guys. They are parting out a 99 Safari which has a black faced speedo with Magnum on it. http://usedrvparts.visonerv.com/cgi-bin/md/M12270/s1.pl?

Rick,
I was able to get a replacement for my 1998 Marquis from BCS Larry Fisher 541-322-1375. He had 3 boxes of them they got when Beaver shut down. You can read the p/n from under the dash and give it to him. Good luck.

My speedometer is consistently 8 mph off - had a repair shop look at it but they couldn't fix so I downloaded a free app to my iPhone which works perfectly. I just set the phone on the dash and instant speedometer.
