It seems I need to clean and recoat the roof of my rig. I am getting a lot of chalking down the sides of the rig and when on the roof if I kneel down I get white chalking on me as well.
What is the best method to do this that others have used. Best why to prep and clean. Best product to seal and maintain the roof of the Beaver.
Probably want to wait for a couple of weeks when its not 90 degrees out to do this.

Steve, check out this link. The marine topside paint worked great for us. We found our coating a only one of many Lowe's in Jacksonville. So you might need to look around as it is a product not all the big box stores keep in stock. good luck!

Amazon sells that coating. I put two coats on our 40' Contests and took almost 3quarts.

I painted the white roof section on my Marquis with the Rustoleum Top Side glossy white from Amazon. My roof was in bad need of some attention, so I pressure washed it, scuffed it with a Scotch Brite pad, and applied two coats with a roller using 4 quarts. The roof looked great and no chalking for two years so far.

It's funny that this thread shows up now. I spent two days last week washing the roof, resealing some areas and sanding and recoating the roof with three coats of dicor fiberglass roof sealant. Of course after I finished and it had three days to dry well it hasn't stopped raining for the last four straight days. But at least one more maintenance item is crossed off my list. I never finish with the list as I am always adding more to it. I guess thats what we do as Beaver owners.

I had clear coat peeling on both green roof top front and rear caps. My coach has also peeled on the green painted rounded sides of the roof between the painted white roof and down to the side drain gutters. I have also had a problem with the plastic material that hides the screws that fasten the gutters to the sides of the coach. To stop these problems I have painted all with white roof paint after sanding with fine sand paper. The white now goes down the side into the rain gutters. I used masking tape to move the cap painting forward on the front cap and to the rear on the rear cap and masked down on the sides to the ends of the gutters and painted everything with white roof paint bought at Lowes. I took the white roof paint just enough forward and to the rear caps that you cannot see the white from the ground when standing front or rear. To me it looks just great and it makes the roof and rolled over sides white as I think it should have been painted in the first place. No more peeled clear coat over green and as much white as I could get to reflect the suns heat. I recommend it to all!

I'm positive that while reading older posts on this forum, I came across an entry related to the chalky residue issue, and that the solution of choice was the liberal application of a few coats of good ol' Mop & Glow. An inexpensive and effective remedy.

It is a temporary measure that will help with the chalking but it does not protect the gel coat from further deterioration which was the point of the painting. You will have to reapply mop and glow. If you do decide to paint you will need to strip the mop and glow product.

Just finished the cleaning and painting of my roof yesterday. Thanks to the excellent direction from the forum it made the job less intimidating. It took 2 coats and 3 1/2 qts. of Rustoleum Top Side Deck paint to do the job but well worth it. I also replaced the vent covers on the fantastic fans and removed all the old unnecessary roof accessories. Glad to have this project finished. Should keep the Beaver looking better without the streaking and chalking after any rain.
Now to get the end caps painted as the clear coat s peeling and worn off around the edges. That's is a project for another day, no rush.
