Title: Got a Question, Don't know A Topic Catagory
Post by: Robin Goffrier on December 18, 2017, 07:15:50 PM
Our 08 42' Contessa is parked on our lot in Indio.  We moved it down from Bend in early October.  Came home to Bend in the toad for the holidays and will return to the coach right after Christmas.  The coach is plugged in to power, water turned off and its on the levelers.  When we get back in a couple weeks we will stay in the coach until probably April sometime.  My question is this.  Should I unhook and drive the coach every now and then?  I don't want to just fire it up in place as such does not build sufficient temp, which is not good for the C9s.  Whats the protocol for extended use as an apartment relative to the mechanicals?  Thanks?

Robin,
I would not go to the trouble to stow everything and unhook to drive the coach a few miles for the 4 to 5 month stay if you are hooked to shore power and keeping the batteries charged. I do not think that the benefits outweigh the effort involved. However, I would recommend exercising the generator as prescribed in your Onan owner's manual. It takes little to no effort and it benefits your generator.

To exercise your generator  should you disconnect from shore power first

Harry,
It is not necessary to disconnect from shore power to exercise your generator. Your transfer switch is a generator priority switch. So when the transfer switch sees 120 volts from the generator, it will automatically disconnect your coach from shore power and connect to the generator.
