Opinions about 1995 Marquis Saphire for sale
« on: July 24, 2020, 11:38:15 PM »
Hi All,
I am looking at possibly purchasing a 1995 Marquis Saphire, has 117,000 miles, located in Florida. Have contacted seller about vehicle history, engine type, etc. I was wondering if I should be on the look out for any specific issues with this particular model? Any body on the forum ever own one? The price at 20k seems almost too low compared to others I have seen. From pics looks to be in great shape. Would have to be driven back to Oregon, right out of gate.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
You can view the brochure by going to the BAC website (Not the  Forum site) beaveramb.org and selecting the About tab then History.
Per the brochure it's on a Gillig chassis and has a Cummins C8-3 300 HP engine. The layout looks great. The open bathroom gives you a lot of wardrobe area on the opposite wall. We had that in our 00 Marquis and loved the storage space. Also has air and hydraulic leveling which is good IMHO. We used the air all the time. The Hydraulic comes in real handy if you need to change a tire on the road, etc.
Good luck! Steve

Jason,
There were many options on the 95 Marquis that ranged from a 2 door model with one front and one side door, a single side door, or a single front door. That model also came with a choice of engines with the 8.3 Cummins with an exhaust brake as standard, and the 3176 Cat with a Jake brake as a very nice upgrade. Also all of them that I know of had a Webasto burner (not AquaHot) as their heating unit. So if you look at it, you should make sure that the heating unit works, because a Webasto overhaul can get north of a thousand $. Another thing to look for is roof leaks. A leaking roof in wet Florida can do a lot of damage to a coach in very little time.

Gerald,
Thank you for the input, the heating system makes me nervous, the Webestos system was an option on our 91 and from my reading seemed very temperamental and if parts and RV techs now would have knowledge to work on it.

Jason,
The Webasto burner is still in production with very few changes from what it was in 1995. It is a very common heating system in over the road trucks and it is the heat source in the AquaHot unit, so finding a qualified tech should not be a problem, but parts are expensive. The Webasto burner is more efficient, much quieter, and it has a much higher BTU capacity than your propane heater.

I had a propane heating unit in my first Beaver, a 93 Patriot, and a diesel burner in my next 2 Beavers, a Hurricane in my 2000 Marquis and an AquaHot in the Solitaire. After having a diesel burner heating unit, there is no way that I would ever go back to a propane heater.

Hi All,

The owner of the rig called, sounds like a good solid rig, only issues are, needs new tires before driving home and dash ac is shot, he got quote, about 3k to replace. Decisions, Decisions....

Dash air is not a deal breaker for me.  I run the genny and use the AC for the RV.  Saying that I had mine repaired and it still doesn't put out that much cool air.  :P
