So i see diagnostic port in the back but shouldn't there be a port under the dash? I looked don't see it. Appreciate any input.

If your coach has an access panel in the top of the dash in front of the steering wheel, like ours it may be in there.

On my 1998 Patriot it is on the Drivers Side under the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash panel.  If you can not see it it my be tucked up under the dash some.

On my 2001 Patriot my ECM diagnostic port was, as Carl stated, behind dash more centrally located behind dash radio.  I laid on my back in front of driver's seat looked up and towards the radio and there it was.

I was able to free it up by snipping a few zip ties and pulling it down for better access.  It was a 6-pin diagnostic port (1990's to early 2000's).  Not the newer 9-pin (early 2000's to present).
Good luck!

Gentlemen, my suggestion be very careful using the Caterpillar data port when install aftermarket
Equipment into that diagnostic port. The 12 volt wires from the data test port are un fused and if
something is not correct with the aftermarket equipment being used at this port you will be replacing
the engine ECM . This is being a common problem as time goes on with several failures with engine
ECM. Dave Atherton Retired Cat Mechanic

Dave here is what i have under my dash a 12 pin diagnostic port. scan guage sent me the proper cord for my motor home after they looked it up and and i sent them a picture of the port. Will this affect the ECM in anyway? i plan not to mess with the one in the service bay you used when you plugged your computer into my motor home when we met in Showlow.

thanks
