Volt gauge bounces at idle
« on: January 08, 2022, 06:40:52 PM »
On a 2004 Beaver Marquis, the volt gauge bounces between 14v and 16v at idle (600 rpm). Alternator completely rebuilt.  New batteries (both Coach and chassis).  Gauge is steady when rpm increase to 900 RPM’s or above.

Is this normal?  Any suggestions.

Leece Neville alternator has a sense wire…. Can anybody tell me where the other end of that wire connects?   It’s not directly to the batteries.  I was told to check connections to ensure they are good.   Good on back of alternator but don’t know where the other end is.

Rick
Your sense wire may go to the battery isolator ( blue finned thing under the bed.

Rick,
Also check that the 12V cables in the rear run box are tight. I had similar sympoms and found a cable a bit loose.

Steve,

Where would I find that?  Is that the box just above the battery switches?

Rick, check the cables on top of your Big  Boy battery isolator to make sure they are tight in the run bay that Steve suggested. Yes it is above the battery on off switches. See attached photo of your Big Boy
