Serpentine belt & air filter
« on: May 17, 2022, 09:00:19 PM »
Hi everyone we are new owners of a diesel pusher like many here , we have a 2000 Beaver Patriot Ticonderoga, with a 3126b caterpillar 330 . I’m looking for any information about the part number for my air cleaner . I have a picture but it’s not letting me share it . The second question is I’m trying too verify a part number someone gave me a while back for my Serpentine belt . The number I was given is a NAPA part number ( 8PK1775) . Thanks everyone and I’ll search around and see if I can figure out how to post a picture .

Youll have to verify the dimensions but the air filter on my 1997  3126 b is a Napa #6857
The number I have for the serpentine belt is Napa 25-080700 or Dayco # 5080700
The water pump belt is a Cat # 036-6775

Hope this helps

Yes indeed that helps , I’ve never changed any of them, and I’m going to before we leave on this next trip . Seems to me, from listening to other discussions that I should use caterpillar parts as much as possible . May I ask how many miles you have on your engine ? I’ve got just over 86,000 , last year when we bought it, it had 84,000 .

Scott
I only have in the neighborhood of 75,000 miles on mine
But at 25 years of age it's always a good idea to start and replace any rubber items like belts and hoses before they deteriorate and cause a problem on the road somewhere in the middle of no man's land if you know what I mean

Eric I agree , I’m having a hard time getting motivated . I’ve never worked on a Diesel engine of any kind . I know I need to be able to do all this work myself , but it’s so friggin hard to get to anything . If I was able to get right in front of the engine and have some room to work I wouldn’t be so hesitant to . It seems, so far anyway I’ve got to lift up the bed and some how lay on top of the engine and try to remove the old belt, then I could check the tenser and bearings . I could take it somewhere and have them do the work , but as you know that will probably cost a couple thousand dollars . And I really need to know how to do it myself, in case something was to ever happen on the road. Thanks and I’ll try and keep you posted on my progress .

Is your coach a rear rad or side radiator model?

Hi Scott, I have a 98 Ticonderoga with the Cat 3126 engine. You should order the airbrake lubricant, it is easy enough to get at without lifting up the bed. I recommend you replace the transmission fluid and filters as well as oil Filter and oil, which is 19 quarts if I remember. Check if your engine has the deep sump. You should replace the fuel filters as well. I also put stabil and an anti bacterial in the diesel tank. If you replace the antifreeze, you can use the 5 year extended life antifreeze as a replacement for the regular antifreeze with the additive. Other items are your front wheel bearings which are in an oil bath, and your rear differential. If you look at your radiator from the engine side, look for oil and dirt coating the fins. If you find that is a problem, you can look on line how to put your slobber tube into a plastic bottle or reroute the slobber tube. You may also want to check if your headlights have had the brightness fix done through the wiring modification. This forum really does have a lot of answers. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. I will answer if I can, though I suspect Eric Maclean knows a lot more than me.

Hi Richard, and thanks for replying . It’s great to talk to someone that’s got the same engine . There are so many things to do and check . It’s funny that you mentioned the wheels being in a oil soak . I saw that mentioned like a year ago and I thought wow, one I’ve never heard of that, and two sometime soon I’m going to need to have that checked out . Can you tell me how I can even find so I can put a eye on it ? Is it something I can do, as far as replacing the oil ? You are just suggesting I have the oil changed ? Do tell please .

Eric my radiator is a rear one . I’m apologize for not knowing how to reply to each person separately . Does anyone know how, or is this all I can do is add the name so the person I’m replying to can see my reply?
