Duo-therm (Dometic) model number transition help
« on: May 30, 2022, 02:33:05 AM »
Larry Azus in an old thread talked about replacing his roof airs, and one of these days I may be looking at the same issues he dealt with, so I appreciate his posts.

But if only a start capacitor is the problem with our rear unit, no new units will be necessary.  In that event, I’ll still be replacing their shields that sunlight has made so brittle that just trying to handle their edges in removal can turn them to plastic shards in my hands.  Reportedly newer shields are less susceptible to UV, but I’d still like to add “vinyl” covers over the shields this time around as they may also help control mud wasps that are a perpetual problem while parked here by the house.  I just need to remember to go up and remove the covers before hitting the road on trips.

My question to you is if you know of any model number translation for my “Dometic 630516.321” AC’s, a number that likely is more of a Duo-therm one around the time Dometic took over (I’m guessing).  I’ve been checking online but so far no other model number has been found, and the shrouds use 5 digit AC model numbers on the fitment charts that all begin with 5.

Joel, here's some info from my files. I replaced both of my old brown covers with white from Amazon. Dometic 3308047.012. They fit same as original on my coach.

So I kinda zeroed in on that one, but couldn’t make out from pix if the holes along the side were decals or holes;  I assume they’re decals or paint.

The recommended part# I finally found, as in your document, is 3308047.004, but it did look like your 3308047.012 would work if the holes lined up and nothing touched on the inside.

My originals are flat on top, but the “Penguin” (yours) version has swept “moldings”.  As long as the screw holes line up.  Mine are also painted “platinum” like one of the sidewall colors.  If replacements can accept paint okay and I can match cheaply and closely enough, I might paint new shrouds.  But on the roof who’s gonna notice.  Hopefully newer versions are far more UV resistant, but covers during storage here at home should help that too.

A year or less ago the than advised replacements were $125, now they’re $172.
