2005 beaver, Monterey died at CG Need a little help identifying a piece of eq

As I backed into a camp spot, my engine died.
I have nothing at the keyswitch.
I do get a light click out of the electrical bay under the driver seat.
Appears it is coming from a small silver cylindrical piece of equipment looks kind of like a garbage can.
It looks like a relay of some sort, but it is not allowing power from the left side of the terminals to the right side of the terminals.
The row of circuit breakers on the hot side seem to power everything the low of circuit breakers on the right side has no power at all.
Could this be the problem?

It sounds like you’re describing the starter solenoid. Have you tried the Battery Boost switch on the dash? If your chassis batteries are weak this will allow the Coach batteries to aid in startup. Best of luck!

It sounds like you are describing the ignition solenoid in the front electrical bay outside under the driver's seat.  If that solenoid has died, then the ignition bus bar will get no power and the coach will not start... among many other problems.

Is that goes bad will that kill the motor on a diesel?

Looks like I need a very large gauge jumper wire

I’m no mechanic, but I believe if that solenoid goes bad it will prevent the starter from being engaged to start the engine, but if the engine is already running I don’t think it will stop it from running. I’m not positive about that though.

It does sound like your ignition solenoid has gone bad .
Yes you can jump from one side of the solenoid to the other ( the large terminals only ) it's best done with a booster cables
This is not an uncommon problem and many of us keep a spare for just that reason.
The solenoid should be easily found at a local parts store.

The solenoid has to. Continuous duty as it is energized all the time the ignition is turned on.

     Bob, If you want to temporarily prove that the solenoid is the issue and you have no battery jumper cables, all you need is a 1/2" wrench. Remove the cable from the left side of the solenoid and install it on the right side of the solenoid. The coach should now start. If that is the case, Go to your local parts house and buy an 85 amp cole hersey solenoid. Fred

They only had one, but I ordered another one for a spare
If it fails again before we get it at least we can hobble ahead with a jumper

I experienced the same issue exiting an off ramp in my 05 Monterey years ago. Instead of a mechanical solenoid/relay I opted for a solid state unit.

   Glad to hear you got it repaired. The other weak link in the "start mode" is the ignition switch. You may want to carry a spare. It is an early 70's chevrolet truck ignition switch. Best replacement is a "Delco Remy" ignition switch. The switches that the factory was installing were cheap. Fred

Make sure you reinstall the diode across the small posts with the diode’s gray stripe on the same side as it was on the old solenoid, normally to the left (positive post).
