Beaver Marquis cooling/heating.

2000 Beaver Marquis. Need to replace the basement A/C with a new unit, including a heat pump.

From the research I have done to dare, it seems that the Coleman-Mach series is the only basement unit available and since it's a side air exit, modifications to fit the Marquis may be extensive.

Has anyone successfully installed minisplits in one of these coaches? Pros, cons or suggestions?

Hi Tom, I see this is an old post, if you’re still around, did you get any information on installing mini splits?

Duane,
Tom left the club about 5 years ago. The posts of anyone who has left show "Guest" for a signature. There are members who have dealt with this issue though. A search for "Basement Air" will yield a number of relevant posts.

I am in the process of doing the engineering. The evaporator will take the place of the cabinet above the microwave and the condenser will take the place of the expanding duct hoses in the slide out. The whole unit will be 18,000 btu and it will move when the slide moves. It has a seer rating of 21 and will run on 220 volts. I will keep everyone advised if I go that route.

Tom what is your thinking of replacing the a/c unit? is it not repairable? as long as the chassis is sound and the coils have not been damaged it is vey much repairable. i was a HVAC tech for 40 years which did give me a head start on my repair .The one thing is converting what you have into a heat pump could be done but it would be tuff because the chassis does not offer much space for the additional components that would be required.
What i did is pull both rotary compressors and replaced them with scrolls at 230volt with a few 1,000 btus above the stock compressors. because that unit is wired with 2- 10ga wire circuits it balances the electric draw when only one stage is running. but if the chassis is sound and the coils are in good shape a HVAC tech could do the same for you it should not cost no more than 1,500 bucks. its a lot less involved then retrofitting something. to save yourself money pull the chassis and find a shop to do that repair for you.they will need to use new relays to operate the new compressors as the board is not compatible with the 230 voltage.    mike
