High mounted stop light
« on: August 25, 2023, 04:53:23 PM »
I need to have the coach safety inspected in TX ( didn’t know that was a thing). and half of my high mount center stop light is not working. It’s made up of about 10 small, removable lights that have a plastic base. Almost like a Christmas light. (See pic). Any idea where I might find replacements, or does anyone have any ideas for replacement?  The light itself looks like it is attached through the face then plugged. I can’t see anyway to remove the whole thing, short of drilling it out.  That would be ok if I could find the same replacement. So it’s replace the whole fixture, or replace the individual lights. Any ideas?

I found lots of LED brake light bars on Amazon and EBAY but I do not know the measurements of your specific light bar.  It appears from your picture that the light bar has screws that attach it from the back of the light bar... not sure.

If you look closely at your high mount brake light you will see a round plug at either end of the face , those plugs can be pryed out with a pick once they are out they reveil a screw at each end of the light remove those screws and the light assembly can be pulled out of its recess in the rear cap.
Once the light is out you will find there is a panel on the rear side that those light bulbs go into .if you look closely there is a printed circuit of sorts that feed the power and ground to each of those bulbs unfortunately the copper on that circuit board gets corroded and bad causing the lights to not function.

At this point with the light assembly out you may want to try retro fitting it with LEDs or try to find a replacement it may be hard to find anything that will fit the recess in the rear cap
I believe the original was made by HELLA part number 95917. Cross references to a hella #5243

This one is clear but the dimensions match mine on my Patriot
Remove yours and check the measurements against the one below

Update…after reading Eric’s post I more closely looked at the strip and the bulbs.  All seemed well, just super dirty.  Removed the bulbs, brushed the contacts on both bulb and copper strip on lens.  Slightly pryed up on the contact tabs on the light so they would make better contact with the strip.  All work fine, except the one I dropped and it disappeared. So thanks for info.  Now, any ideas on how to remove the hi beam head lamps?  The screws that hold the retainer ring are buried too close to the cap opening.  Not enough room to get a screw driver in there, let alone replace them.  Any ideas?

The Marquis uses different headlights than our Patriot but they appear to be regular automotive head lights .
You say the cap is too close to access the retaining screws which is quite possible but the head light buckets are mounted on springs and have a pair of adjusting screws to allow head lamp aiming ( try not to disturb the aiming screws as that would require realigning the head lights ) but if you can reach in between the cap and the head light assembly with a screwdriver you should be able to pry the bucket over slightly (far enough) to access your retaining screws, be careful not to dislodge the alignment screws.

Hope this helps
