Slide Step Motor
« on: September 08, 2023, 12:13:50 AM »
I have a few questions about my step slide motor.  Started grinding while closing and opening, took the motor off to replace and no part number.  Called Mike at BCS and he says I need to replace everything, motor, brains, magnets, etc. $650.00

Found a motor that looks real close, Kwikee, part number 1101428379147.  Has anybody gone this route? Amazon has a replacement for it https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Compatible-Lippert-Components-214-1001/dp/B09MKPKR7R , not sure if it is the one.

2002 Patriot, front door

Thanks

Steve,
The Entry Step article in Common Problems may be of assistance (assuming you are referring to the external step motor and not the internal step cover motor).

From the article....
Motor:
Lippert has acquired the majority of step manufacturers.
• 436-547-7378

Automotive window lift motors are an alternative; e.g.:
• Siemens "Window Lift Motor", part number WL43003 used on a variety of Fords
• Remove motor and take to auto supply store, e.g. NAPA

Thanks for the info Steve.

I have looked at the Common Problems and checked out part numbers etc.  I'm currently in central Colorado and will be in Ouray tomorrow for a few days, will take the motor to Napa or local auto parts.

Just asking if anyone had to buy the complete new step/computer setup or found that all they needed was the correct motor?

Thanks, Steve

Steve,
If the motor "grinds" when disconnected but the step mechanism moves freely, it would seem the motor is faulty and the remaining mechanism is OK. Replacing the motor and lubing the mechanism should be all that is needed. Not clear to me why anyone would recommend a complete system replacement based on the symptoms you've described.

That's my thinking was also, seems like a overkill to buy a complete system. Thanks for the help.

Bought the new motor from Amazon, got it installed, works fine.  No need to buy a complete system.

Try etrailer rv step motor. I bought my step controller 8 years ago. Sounds like you just need the motor.
