Replace leveling air compressor
« on: March 08, 2024, 03:45:58 AM »
I have a 2006 Monterey and on Monday a RV tech is going to replace the leveling compressor. I have purchased a Viair compressor to replace whatever the coach was born with. I purchased this coach used in 2016 and the existing compressor has never worked. Could someone tell me exactly was has to be done to facilitate the switch to the new compressor. Thanks in advance for the help.

Steve,

I purchased a Viair Model 380c.  Hopefully, this will work. I remember someone posted having to run a 10ga wire and installing a 30 or 40 amp relay. I can’t find that post. Would you email me (twebber93@yahoo.com) your contact information as I or the tech working on my project might want to contact you.

Tom,
Since the Viar 380 draws 23A max, it needs a 30A fuse in the supply circuit, wired with 10 awg wire.. The relay is used to turn the Viar on and off based on the PSI in the supply tank as sensed by the check valve. I've attached a diagram of the circuit. Use 10awg from the 12v house supplied 12V to the the relay and from the relay to the Viar. As noted in the thread I provided, I strongly suggest vibration dampening to reduce the compressor noise. I've also attached photos of my installed Viair and the vibration damping mount(s).

Tom,
The check valve on mine was plumbed on a tee from the compressor to tank air line. The tee used a flex line from the air line to the check valve that was prone to leak. I removed the flex line and using a 1/4" to 1/8" bushing w/pipe threads I installed the bushing into the airline and the check valve into the bushing. No more leaks.

Does anyone know where the leveling sensor unit is located on a 06 Monterey?  I would call this the gyroscope. This would  correct the vehicle so the lights on pad reflect true level. It looks like this box is mounted on three springs. Hopefully, I am on the right track to solving my challenge.

Its supposedly in the HWH control module on the ceiling of the electrical bay, street side foremost.
During adjustment you'll benefit from working with a spotter in the driver's seat who can watch the control pad lamps for you.  I think you can ignore  #5 in the instruction list.

Sorry for the poor quality instructions, but they were downloaded from HWH in 2006 by a repairing dealer.  You may find better online directly from HWH.

Coach Assist also has the adjustment procedure for an HWH 600
