Tag axle tie rods( radius arms)

Our 2000  Marquis Amethyst is at Josam's Wheel and Frame alignment shop in Orlando.  Barry ran the coach onto their moving plate hydraulic system and set it in motion. The whole coach shook and shimmied.  This to detect any looseness in suspension and alignment parts.  After this test was successfully completed, we discussed the tag axle issues.  Barry was suprised the inboard Sealmaster rod end bearing had a 3/4 inch threaded part when the outboard ball jointed end, has a 1 1/8th threaded end.  Clearly the inboard end is a weak link. The drivers side rod end was bent and ready to let go.  So both tie rods are now off the coach and at local machine shop that handles all Josam's work.
They are going to refit both rods with the largest inboard rod end bearing possible, up to 1 1/8th inch and replace the outboard end ball joints as well.
The radius (4) tie rods that hold the main drive axle, have split bushings.  No movement was detected here, but as the coach is nearly 13 years old, we are going to have Josam's press in new bushings and then do a full alignment.
When you shift from neutral to ahead or reverse, and you hear a CLONK, it is these bushings that are the likely cause.

I don't think Barry went through the shake test on my coach.  He did straighten the drive axle and shorten the connecting links on one side of the tag axle so it would track straight.  He didn't send the link or trailing arm or whatever it's called, they cut it, shortened it, and welded it back.  The ride after they were done was so much better.  No more pulling to the right :-) BTW, I didn't think about it while there, you may want to, they have scales to weigh each wheel position.

You are definately at the right place to have the job done correctly. Where do you go from Orlando? We are leaving home (St. Augustine) tomorrow to go to the Keys for a week of tarpon fishing.

Gil, I will call Josam's and get them to weigh the coach on each axle /wheel. It has never been done.
Robert,we are here in our condo on South Hutchinson Island until mid June when we will be heading north to Toronto,Canada.
I will be taking  pics to post a few on here when the job is completed.  There must be other Marquis out there with the same tag axle set up as ours.

We left Josams in Orlando this morning.  They have rebuilt the tag axle tie rods with new ball joints on the outboard ends and new 1 inch thread Heim bearings on the inboard ends.   Because   the 1 inch threaded part of the new bearings are longer as well as larger than the 3/4 inch Sealmaster bearings, the rods were machined shorter and then drilled and tapped .  The attachment plates on the axle were machined for 1 inch bolts .
Once assembled Josams did a rear wheel alignment on the drive axle and the tag axle.
While switching my (side worn only) tag axle tire for one of the inboard duals ,a leaky inboard seal was discovered on the oil bath.  This was replaced  .
On the scales both tag wheels are carrying 5300 lbs.  The plate says my tag axle load is 10,800 lbs ,so we are very near  the mark.
Next week we will have the roof radius painted and the front touched up before we leave Florida for NY State and Canada.
This was a "spendy" week !!!!   I will post pics of the work done soon.
