Reading Lamps & Keys
« on: October 11, 2012, 09:35:01 PM »
At night if I wanted to refer to a map (don't fully trust the GPS) the 2 overhead lamps were our only option and the reflection on the windshield was bad. To fix this I added goose-neck LED lamps above both the pilot & co pilot chairs. They run on 12V, available at the curtain motor switch (pilot side) and antenna booster (co-pilot side). The lamps are Hafele Loox LED, 2018. I got  them from National Builders Hardware in Portland for under $35 each inc. shipping. They are brushed stainless but a bit of spray paint results in a matched decor.

Another irritant was the collection of keys we have to deal with; 2 sets of RV keys, 2 sets of toad keys, etc. I velcro mounted a tupperware tub to a piece of wood shaped to fit the cut-out above the CD changer. It became so "popular" w/stuff, the keys sank to the bottom. At least once, I triggered the rear hatch on our Toad by inadvertently pressing the remote while digging for something else. My wife suggested we use the 3M removable hooks. Problem solved. I mounted them just behind the co-pilot seat where I can get to them easily.

Nice installation, but we solve the problem by not driving at night!   :K)

Ditto, I almost had to drive and night Saturday but made it to Kingman just before sunset.  Still have no idea how well the headlights work and with just a little bit of luck......I'll never find out.

For the keys I screwed several brass cup-hooks into the carpeting on the front of the coach, below the dash, at the top of the steps.  Out of the way, but handy.
The carpeting stands out from whatever rigid material is behind it in that location, so you only need to screw into the carpet.

We also mounted the 3M hooks but positioned them in front of the Co-pilot seat just inside the doorway. This way I dont have to go all the way in the RV to grab a key and it becomes second nature to hang and pull keys when coming or going.
