Sliding Shower Bar
« on: January 06, 2013, 11:58:42 PM »
FYI for anyone having the shower setup where the spray head is held by a plexiglas hook and wanting to update to a sliding bar. ebay has a very good deal on polished brass (gold) sliding bars; $12 plus shipping. I just installed one and it looks and seems to work good. The bar is metal and the end caps plastic, but seems very sturdy after installation.

That looks like a good idea, but I wonder what the difference in quality is between the one you bought and this solid brass one sold by the same person on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kohler-K-9516-PB-Vibrant-Polished-Brass-Mastershower-22-3-4-Shower-Slide-Bar-/350686078071?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51a684e477 Although $191 (it's only $157 on Amazon) seems excessive, I would hate to make holes in my shower surround for a $12 one only to find that what I mounted there didn't last.  If the rod isn't brass it may not stand up to the moisture in the shower.

Joel,
Went through similar thought process. Our mtn home has slide bars in both baths that I thought were all metal until I removed one due to some maint work and found they were same as this one, plated metal rod with plastic end caps. No problems in  about 12 years. For $12 vs the $150+, I can replace it if there is trouble, Mounting is only 1 screw on each end so no problems expected with a remount if needed.
