Need ideas on how to have a flagpole on rig
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:56:15 AM »
My coach has NO ladder on the rear.  I have a heavy hitch assembly installed into the hitch receiver.

Any suggestions on how to have a long flagpole attached to the rig?  Or do I have to put it in the ground?

There are not a lot of options that come to mind. You may have some amount of two inch tube exposed that comes out of the motorhome receiver hitch going to your car coupler. Without getting too complicated it would seem that you could get several U bolts (muffler clamps) that could go around some PVC pipe and also clamp onto the receiver tube with a couple of pieces of flat bar stock between the Ubolts on the opposite side of the square tube from the side the pipe is on. Having the pipe be maybe 3ft high starting from ground level would add some stability and could work. You would drop the flagpole (height within the limits of the strength of this mount) into the PVC pipe.

There are products out there where the pole mounts to a flat plate you simply drive onto with a coach tire, holding it in place.  See Camping World's website where I think I've seen it.

Richard,
You can also buy flagpole mounts that you set on the ground and drive a coach tire onto it. The weight of the coach holds the mount in place with the flagpole installed.

I have a FlagPole Buddy which mounts to the ladder.  It works great on my '04 Monterey.  Available on Amazon for $111.  Here is a link.  http://www.amazon.com/Flag-Pole-FlagPole-Buddy-Feet/dp/B003HEVTRY/ref=pd_sim_sbs_lg_1
