Cracked headlights

Dennis Crawford:
Stan,

You will be doing some cutting and mounting chsnges. Make sure you:

1. Notice how they aremounted.
2. Be very careful with the cutting and filing.  You will be very close to the edge of the lens.

I had the fellow across the street from BCS put film over the headlight assemblies so they'd be protected like the rest of the cap.  It seems to do the job, but I've had him redo them once, and they still pucker due to the curve involved, and dirt accumulates behind the film.  Nevertheless,  I believe the film helps prevent cracks, fending off UV radiation and rocks.

I think both left and right assemblies were available on Ebay, Stan, but good job researching and locating a heck of a better deal!

All of the ones I've seen online say they are DOT and SAE certified to the OEM. Does that mean Beaver changed them to fit as well?

Stan

Dennis Crawford:
Stan,

They sure modified them to fit my 2005 Monterey.  The mounting was changed as well as a lot of the plastic trim around the lens had to be removed.  These changes I had to make were also changes on the ones I replaced.

Per my previous post, be very careful when cutting.

Apologies to all here but our 1998 Patriot had the square plastic headlights.  They looked the same as the ones in our 1990 Ford PU but were smaller.
Somewhere on this forum I heard that they used headlight assemblies from 1980's full size Bronco.  I did track one down at a wrecking yard and they seemed to be the same.

FYI Richard-
We have the 2000 Navigator headlights in our 2000 Navigator.  One became fogged and had moisture.  I pulled the unit out and used a hair dryer to dry it out and soften the seals.  I think it was Por-Seal clear that I used to reseal and cleaed it up with medium/fine/then McGuires ultimate compound and a soft cloth.  Polishing took about twenty minutes because it was so bad.
Saved some bucks and it just needs a touch up now after a year.
