Genturi/Aqua-Hot / Hydro-hot

Hi guys
I'm sure someone has installed a Genturi on their Aqua/Hot - Hydrohot,
What special ,if anything did you have to do?
Have you experienced any thing unusual?
are you happy with the results?

The only thing special I had to do was make an adaptor to go from the rectangle pipe on my Hydro-Hot to the round pipe of the Gen-Turi. It works great and I'm sure my neighbors are really happy that I'm not pumping exhaust in their direction. Last year I was parked at a cramped campground and my exhaust would have been right at their front door. It's just a good idea to use one. Marty

Marty did nice work at figuring out how to turn square into round!

I'm not sure which engineering wizard at Beaver decided to put the hydro-hot exhaust under my dear wife's bedroom window, but a Genturi for me was not even close to an option if I wanted a morning shower.

My 2004 Beaver came with a chrome exhaust extension clamped to the exhaust.  The hole in it was slightly smaller than the Genturi pipe.  I put a rotary file in an electric drill and gradually enlarged the extension hole until the Genturi pipe fit.  With the Genturi in place, I drilled straight down from the top so that a 1/4 inch bolt would fit as a pin to hold it.

The hardest part for most people seems to be how to attach the two support straps.  I went to West Marine and got stainless screws and what I think are called "guides" .  The guides are small loops with two screw holes.  I attached them to what I think some call the "belt line" on the Beaver.  It is the alluminim piece that supply the hinge mount for the bay doors.

It has been working for 6 years.

The adapters that come with the Genturi would have worked fine, but they are a little "clunky" looking.

Two years ago after purchace of the Genturi I modified it by removing the 1 and quarter 90 degree pipe with a two inch flared at one end to fit over the existing chrome Hydro-hot exhaust. I did not want to restrict the flow of exhaust because I needed it to go the 12 feet up and over the coach (05 Monterey). Also bought their 18" extension to complete that idea (up and over). It worked very well, BUT I found flakes of black soot on the white roof section near it and really didn't want something else to clean (especially 12' up and over). I'm assuming soot adhearing to the inside was being knocked loose each time I installed the Genturi on the coach. When the heater started it just blew out even on the ground around it. I don't use it any longer. What I do use when needed is another metal two inch 90 flared one end and 2 metal 36" flared one end straight pipes to get it to the back of the coach (well almost back) and laying flat or level to the ground. I also made a carrier for each mounted outside under the coach. No more dealing with soot.

I hate my HH exhaust under the bedroom window also, 2007 Contessa. My solution is to disconnect the exhaust pipe near the HH itself (and the other places its attached), flip it over and the re-install it so the end comes out underneath the kitchen window on the patio side. Then cut the end to fit and (or before its re-installed) add a chrome extension if desired. Probably come out at about 45* instead of 90* when I crawled under and looked at it but any muffler shop will have a piece to change that if necessary. A little work but much less than a Genturi.

Not sure the engineering thought process to have it under the bedroom. Must be they didn't want it coming out in the patio when you were sitting there. Well, if I'm sitting in my patio  the HH and heater isn't running. And, if its cold enough to run the HH heater I'm probably not sitting outside. Just my thoughts.

Has anyone spoke with AquaHot?  I seem to recall a discussion I had with them (then Vehicle Systems) and they were complaining that the exhaust pipes were already too long.  I was having problems with carbon build up in my exhaust pipe at the time.

I did speak to a tech 3 years ago when I was thinking about adding a Gen-Turi to the Hydro-Hot. He said as long as I didn't go over the recomended amount of 90 degree bends that are stated in the installation manual that it would be fine. Mine only makes two 90's and one 45 including the 90 on the Gen-Turi so I'm well within the limits. No carbon build up on mine or soot on the roof. I think those that do should  be looked into for some other problem. Marty
