Keyless entry
« on: June 12, 2014, 09:05:45 PM »
Typical summer day in Orlando, afternoon thunder, rain and lightning.  My wife went into the MH for something and noticed the key-less entry keyboard was making a high pitched sound.  She also noticed that most of the cargo bays were unlocked.  I have been able to lock the door and all cargo doors with the pad but we don't know the unlock code and the dealer couldn't reset it.  They ordered a replacement for it.  I went to the coach to check on it a few hours later and also heard the sound and noticed cargo doors unlocked.  While in the coach puttering around I noticed that the sound stopped and I heard a click.  Checked the cargo doors and sure enough they had locked themselves.  All except one which I can't get to lock with the key either.  That brings me to my questions:
1. WTH is going on with the key-less entry, have any of you had this happen before and if so how do I stop it?
2. Is there a trick to replacing the locks on the cargo doors or do I just take the cover off from the back of the door and take it off?
Thanks in advance.

I've had issues with our keyless pad when it gets wet, locking or unlocking on its own, but not the high pitched noise you mention.  I don't think the panel out of the box is sealed very well, and you mentioned having stormy weather.  Had mine replaced by BCS under warranty once, but the new one did the same darned thing.  I'm presuming water gets inside and shorts contacts.  I eventually asked BCS while I was in there to super seal it and they siliconed or Lexeled where the panel mounts to the coach and also where the numerals pad fits in its escutcheon.  Haven't had a problem since.  Make sure they seal the new one to the wall with plenty of sealant, and also the pad in it's mounting plate so no way can any moisture get inside the device.

My Beaver's bay locks have never seized on me, but the old Pace Arrow's frequently did, and so did the similar locks on the Beaver's engine hatch.  I just used the red straw on a can of WD-40 or other penetrant/lube to squirt some in the lock and around the visible latch mechanism, and worked the key in it until it freed up.  It is probably better to spray in special lock lube or even dry silicone which won't attract road dust inside the locks.

Rained again today while I was there replacing the inverter.  Did the same thing.  clipped the wires to the beeper...end of problem.

Jerry,

With your cargo lock that will not lock, I had a couple that acted screwy. Took the inside door panel off and there is a cheapo wire/rod from the solenoid to the lock which had bound up the actual door lock latch. You can probably just get it back into place and should work fine. I went and got some rod and made new one that will not come loose.

Thanks Lee, I did take it apart but what I found was that the electric actuator for the lock was seized up solid.  Took it out and will have to figure out where to get one at a decent price.  One down the street at an audio dealer was $40 bucks.
