Glowing red hot coil?
« on: June 24, 2014, 06:02:45 PM »
Today while checking the oil in the generator on my 2005 36 foot Monterey I happened to notice a coil of some sort glowing red hot just above the opening in the front cap over the generator (gen was extended out).  It was literally glowing red hot.  Condition is that the engine was running, generator off, headlights on.  It appears to be behind a small grill of some sort (see attached pic).  Anyone know what it might be and if so, should it be red hot?  Thanks in advance for any information.

Keith,
I can not be sure what you are referring to from the picture because I have not worked on the part in question, but you probably had the dash A/C running with the blower on a low speed, and the coil is the resistor for the dash A/C blower motor. If so this is normal, you can turn the dash A/C unit off, and the coil will cool down.

Thanks Gerald, that makes sense and it matches what was going on.  David it would have been a very small bbq.
