AIR CONTROL LIFT OF LEFT FRONT ONLY
« on: October 15, 2014, 12:13:03 AM »
I am back for help from the expert desk.

I have a 99/00 Beaver Montery with a small problem(I hope)

The Left Front seems to always be lower than the rest of the coach after a day of no additional air from the compressor.

My thoughts are
1. Air bag
2. Control mechanism leveler isn't functioning on the LF Only
3. Control relay ?? might be defective.

Can anyone shed some light onto this?

Thank You

Tom,
Sounds to me like a leak in the air bag or the line from the air valve feeding the bag. If the control mechanism or relay was faulty, seems that it would not ever level. Try spraying a dish detergent/water solution on the lines- bag to see if you can locate a leak.

Tom,
Your coach only uses 3 height sensors to adjust ride height. The early model Monterey coach used 2 front and one rear sensor, but I think that by the 2000 model the sensor configuration had changed to the standard of one front and two rear sensors. Therefore, you do not have a sensor for each front and the only highly probable reason for the LF only going down is a leak in the air suspension system. The leak can be at an air bag, air line, connector, valve, or O-ring.

Thank You
That is all great advise. I will check all connections for any air leaks.

From all of your experience, what is the most probable culprit?

Yes it is a 99 I guess(2 sensors in front)
Is there an easy test for the sensor?

Tom,
You could try adjusting the sensor for the low side. If it has one in front and 2 in the rear, the rear on the low side is the one to try. Be very careful as the coach can drop immediately if the rod clamp comes loose from the rod. Best to get the coach up on ramps so it can't crush you if it drops. As you adjust the rod sensor (loosen clamp on rod and slide slightly), the air bag should adjust almost immediately. Mark original location as a reference. Use same procedure on low front side if it has 2 sensors in front.
Do this when coach has settled.

Tom,
As I understand your problem, the coach sits level when in use (driving), but it starts to drop the LF after being parked for more than a day. If so, there is a very high probability that your height sensors are OK. Look for an air leak. The most common location for which will be an air line connection. Also check the air bag because air bag leaks are not uncommon in a 15 year old coach.
