Question re: Power Cord and Tag Axle Air Pressure Control
« on: January 01, 2015, 07:22:03 PM »
OK....I'm still getting used to the differences between my 2000 PT and this 2002 Marquis.

First question:  The power cord dropping down though rollers that are offset from the reel is a bit annoying.  I can not seem to get the cord dispensed without stopping, it out, than go back and dispense another 3 feet or so.  Repeat until extended.  Has anyone come up with a better way?? or some mods to bring it out the door??

Second:  The air control for the tag axle is located in the back of the bay and gets in the way when I try to put stuff in there.  I had found on my PT that little slot between the wet bay bulkhead and the support post perfect for storing our patio chairs and little table but with the air regulator mounting I can not get the 2nd chair in there.  So, is there any reason the regulator and Gage couldn't be relocated to the engine service bay??

Thanks for any thoughts.

Dick,

I do not love the roller arrangement either but if your wife is near, I run the switch while my wife pulls the cord out keeping some tension on it. We do the cord return trip with her walking the end back in while I run the switch and use a paper towel around the cord during retract to clean the dirt off which seems to help the reel mechanism work better.

As far as question two if it involves just hose or wires it would seem like you could relocate components as needed.

Dick,
I dont know if this helps but when extending the power cord I put it through the rollers and catch it once it hits the ground.  While still holding the switch and the chord I run out about 4 ft. Sections and lay it in an 'S' pattern at my feet.  When it seem to be enough I pull it out and connect.
Simularly the same in reverse.  To store the cord I use a rag and wipe it down leaving it coiled in an 'S' pattern below the power reel.  I can operate the switch and hold the cord to take the weight off the reel.  Replacing the Glendenning isnt cheap!
As far as moving the tag air control.  I have never needed to change the setting.  My manual says it was set at the factory and unless there is overwhelming need, dont change it.  We run so lightly packed it has not been a problem.

On my 06 PT the power switch stays on so I just walk the cord out to the power stand and then hustle back and hit the switch. Back in I unplug the end and take it back and pull it up through the roller port then hit the switch and guide the cord back in.
For the Tag reg there is no reason you can't relocate it back to the engine compartment. Mine is mounted in the left side of the engine compartment.

Dick,
Your power cord complaint can be corrected by installing a section of PVC pipe that is large enough for the cord and plug between the roller head on the Glendenning unit and the lower roller guide. I have seen this done before, and it works well, but it is a bigger project than I am willing to undertake for a very minor nuisance.
