Skylight Replacement 2001Patriot

Has anyone replaced the skylight in this era coach?
Mine is a 23"x23" square skylight.

Can anyone tell me if the skylight is a single sealed double lense or if it's a single outer lense over a single inner lense?

Just replaced mine a few months back when I had the roof done.  I believe it was the same size as yours and I searched online for something similar but ended up just ordering it directly from BCS as it was a perfect replacment.  Not positive,  but Thinking back, it looked like a sealed double lens, but maybe im wrong.

Les, I replaced the skylight last August on our 98 Contessa, purchased from BCS unit (double wall same as original).  A rather expensive but delicate piece of plastic that must conform to a slightly curved edge near the wall.  The original had failed starting at several of the screw locations so when I installed the new one I fashioned aluminum strips to squeeze the plastic flange uniformly over  the length of each side.  See the final installation photo with half the caulk installed.

Les,
It's a single seal, double lens unit. I've replaced one on our Contessa and one on the Marquis. Toughest part is cleaning the old adhesive (Dicor) off. BTW, in neither case did the original screw holes line up.

I checked with BCS. They are a sealed single inner and outer skylight unit. They have 12 in stock minus the one I'm about to order.

It appears that I didn't damage the skylight this winter shoveling the snow off the roof, but that cracks developed around the flat portion due to breakdown from UV.

I sealed up the cracks in the one on my coach for now while waiting for the new skylight, but decided to re-do the inner cherry wood surround. I should have taken a before shot of the cherry wood surround but got over zealous and started tearing it out.

Here are a few shots of my process. A couple of photos show the old damaged wood. I had the new pieces stained and lacquered by a furniture refinisher to match one of the doors on the vanity.

It turned out pretty good I think.

Les,
Nice job on the surrounds. As soon as the edge seal breaks, condensation will form between the inner and outer dome. It has no place to go except to slowly "leak" down on to the wood surrounds. Once you see condensation, it's time to replace the sky light.

FYI: Our shower skylight had already been replaced when we purchased the Thunder.  Same size as everyone else but has been fitted with a VELUX 22.5 x 22.6 double pane.  Looks very classy, real glass not cloudy plastic, fixed unit, absolutely no leaks.  Know it's VELUX because word 'VELUX' appears when fogged from showering - surprised me first time I saw it, thought someone was skywriting!.

Why not go with this to begin with?

Here's a snap shot from inside:

Best Regards,

That's what I'd like to replace ours with eventually.  FWIW it's a model FS skylight in a size D26.
