Does anyone know personally of a failure of Allison transmission from using Amsoil? Or even heard of it? I have had Amsoil in my 3000 transmission for 62000 with no problems. So know I have to decide whether to do the very expensive double change to switch to a approved oil or go ahead with Amsoil again.

I asked that very same question to the former head of Allison's fluid division.  He is on one of the other forums.  He would not say that it was bad.  He owns a fluid analysis business now and his suggestion was to send in a sample and they would tell you the health of the transmission.  I'm guessing that after 60K miles you have answered your own question and mine too!  Thank you.

Dale,

If you did send in for analysis it would tell you the health of the oil and what if any transmission wear components are in the oil. That is the best way to know and if it would be worth changing out the Amsoil.

Good morning Gentleman, I have been a firm believer of Oil sampling over my working days,
to myself it is the first line of run or failure. Oil sampling will not work unless regular follow up,
is to start a base line with first oil sample than follow up as hours build and
at service periods. ( getting off Track here ). I would suggest taking your samples to different Lab.
I would suggest Cat Dealer because locations all over the country and lab standards they follow.
We have ran into various independent labs, here today and gone tomorrow than start all over again with
base line with new testing company. The type and kind of oils used today is a person choice as which
is best or better than others. The follow up to that statement oil sampling will tell you what happening
or break down of said oil. Dave Atherton Retired Cat Mechanic
