question on residential Fridge upgrade from norcold
« on: September 01, 2016, 04:02:45 AM »
Hi I have a Monterrey (2005) with 4 house batteries and a 2000 w inverter, can anyone give me advise what if any electrical changes are required to support the power requirements of the fridge? (Samsung rf18)

Thanks

Jim
we installed the Samsung RF18 last year.We also have 4 batts and a 2000 watt inverter. We do not dry camp very often but on this latest trip across country we have needed to boondocks several times.

I have AGS which starts my generator when the battery charge gets too low. After talking to many "experts" on battery issues I changed my low voltage start point to 11.8 volts. Previously I had it set at 12.0 volts and I could not get thru the entire night without the generator starting. Since I changed the low point start I have had no problems with the batteries getting me thru the night.

I run the generator a couple hours each evening till it says Float charge and then we go to bed. I try to turn everything off and I also turn off the ice maker on the fridge. When we get up I run the generator again to recharge.

I have thought about more batts but so far so good.

Jim,
We also had the Samsung RF18 installed in June.  Our first trip was a short one two weekends ago.  Before we headed out I had the coach stationary in my workplace parking lot for nine hours.  Of which six hours were in 90+ degree heat running on the 2000 watt inverter.  I have four house 6V wet cell batteries.  The only problem we had was the ice cream was too hard to scoop!  :P  The LED lights are super bright and we had a full bucket of ice the next morning.

We adjusted the freezer up a few degrees and all was fine.  One of the best decisions we have made.

My brother-in-law is running a Norcold 1200 and he cannot maintain proper temperature in his freezer nor fridge.  It is a fairly new unit.
Best of luck!
