Onan service
« on: February 09, 2017, 11:59:38 PM »
Reading the genset manual I see that the spark arrester  needs periodic cleaning.  I do recall doing this one time on a previous coach.  Does anyone here do this?  How often?  What symptoms would the genset show when its time for this to be done?

Keith,
I clean mine every oil change (probably more than needed). It's a simple procedure. Remove the top cover to access the muffler and remove the bolt in the side of it. Run the geni under load for 10-15 minutes. Reassemble. I think symptoms include smoky exhaust.

I was told my cummins-onan near Eugene that this wasn't really part of the 1000hr maintenance and also because mine was taken out of the coach for other repairs that they would bench test it and in that way any flakes would be removed from the system without having to take out the cap for the spark arrestor.  Mine is a 10KW and I guess the feeling is that it burns cleanly and there's no residual to be blown out?
