Cap Marker Lights
« on: July 05, 2017, 05:21:41 PM »
It is time to replace the marker lights front and rear on my 06 Beaver.  Thinking of going LED as they seem brighter.  Has anyone done this to their rig?  If so are there any pitfalls or concerns to be aware of before I start this project.

Thanks
Steve

Steve,
There are two issues that I can think of if you change your clearance lights (lights high on front and rear cap) over to LED lights. The first and most obvious is to clean the old sealer off very thoroughly and seal the new lights with a good sealer like Lexel instead of silicone. The foam gasket that comes with the lights will leak water into the coach, therefore the sealer is necessary. The next issue is that LED lights are polarity sensitive, and since polarity did not matter with the original incandescent lights , they are not always wired the same from the factory, and you may need to reverse the wires at the light to get the LED lights to work.

Thanks gentlemen for the info.  I have removed all the cap lights and they where all in bad shape, brittle and cracked.  Cleaned all the silicone off as best as I can with a razor knife and elbow grease. That is the hardest part.  If anyone does this project do not cut the wire as they can inadvertently fall down inside the cap.  Not sure how I am going to fish that one out.  Quick learner though I left the other fixtures attached until I get ready to replace them with the new LEDs tomorrow.

Steve,
(Been there, done that). If you can't fish it out, just tie the wiring into the next light. A straightened hanger makes a good probe to run the new wire with.
