Help! Cabinet in slide coming down!
« on: January 25, 2019, 10:35:32 PM »
When we bought our 05 Monterey we knew it had some water damage in the driver's side slide. Whatever wood is up there is rotted and warped, so the screws holding the cabinet to the ceiling have nothing to grab on to. Does anyone know if there are metal studs in the roof? If so do they run longways the length of the slide or short? I tried a stud finder but it can't get a reading through the thick headliner.

Mike,
The Al struts run laterally. If the water damage is in the ceiling, you will probably have to remove the ceiling panel to replace the rotted wood. https://get.google.com/albumarchive/117666847855371695888/album/AF1QipNSCs9vL6FipgrZfSbsNFl_IJ4aaqbnXyjGYy5R/AF1QipPsnRUZ8j4wQkUKF-MTjnIQy0V_UJy2N_yVoO7a

Thanks. Just to clarify, do you mean the aluminum struts run longways, the full 12' of the slide? Any idea how many there are and the spacing?

From the picture in the link provided above the metal braces run from side to side. If you call Bend Service Center in Bend, OR their service Dept can probably give you the spacing distance for the roof and where they are if you need to find a verified stud in a slide wall.

I measured the two screws under my sink that hold the lower cabinet to the slide wall you and I worked on and they are 24” centers. Don’t know if there is one in between on 12” centers unless I drill. The metal wall studs line up under the sink on each side of the cabinet shelf wall. You will see the Lbrackets we worked on when you peek under the sink.

Mike, my cabinet above the dinette has screws in the top inside framing board about every 20-21””. This may mean there is an upper header this cabinet it attached to. Call me if you want me to measure any inside screw distances or locations that might indicate where the studs are.

Thanks everyone, we are just trying to secure the cabinet until we have time to really repair it. We have drilled a few small holes inside the cabinet where it doesn't show, haven't hit anything solid yet. We will keep trying and try to contact Monaco next week.

I would contact Beaver Coach Sales and I think you would get an answer.  If no answer then I would recommend you contact Rev Group instead of Monaco. You should get answer quicker.
