need help with a 98 monterey
« on: August 05, 2019, 07:21:12 PM »
anybody have any schematics or wiring diagrams for a 98 Beaver Monterey?  drove it into my driveway and when i tried to start it i found it had an alarm system that supposedly has a starter lockout.  disconnected the alarm but still no start.  Can jumper the start relay so everything outboard of that works fine,  finding lots of strange unlabeled wiring betweeb the batteries bUt think they are for the solar.  shooting in the dark with no documentation for component location.

I have some diagrams for that era coach. Take a look and copy what you want/need.  https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtvAXw_lfqbTuR-SH36_666FxEu6?e=BwYm8h

thanks so much.  Dang thing is driving me nuts and keep finding cut wires that I don't know what they go to as I cant read what is stamped on the wire covers.  problem is before the start relay and after the ignition switch.  still looking to see if someone put in a relay as a starter lockout but cant find it.  definitely not getting the actuation voltage to the starter relay and jumpering the relay causes the engine to turn over but won't start.

Walter,
Have you checked the ignition relay in the front electrical bay?

We had a 98 Patriot with the Intellitec engine monitor system.  Dont hold me to that brand name.  It seems the alarm was on one of those screens and would indeed lock you out.

If someone upgraded you to the Silverleaf (for instance), that could account for the cut wires.
Look at the engine monitor and at the relay in the  relay in the elec run bay.
Also just had a similar issue with an 06 Monterey and it was the starter relay on the starter.

good luck

You say it won't start. Does that mean it turns over but won't light off or does it not even turn over. Our 98 Monterey did not light off at one time and I found the fuse for the CAT ECM had blown. The fuse was an inline type located on a positive wire about 8in. from one of the chassis batteries in the battery bay.
Hope that helps. Marty

Well it  seems I finally found the problem.  someone wired the ECM power into the solar charger wiring and when I pulled the solar connections off the battery it put me into a no start condition.  fuse and relay panel located in the battery bay was wired directly to the batteries via the solar wiring.   I pulled all to old solar wiring when installing a major solar charging system.  1140 watts with a 80 amp MPPT Outback solar charge controller feeding 4 105AH LiFePo batteries.  moved the fuse panel to the front wall in the engine compartment and tied into power at the big terminal points there
