On the 10 KW and 12 KW Onan constant speed generators, starting at around 1000 hours , if you hear dull knocking sound that comes and goes when the engine is running, you may need to replace the stator bearing support. This is a defect in the Onan generator that can appear between 1000 and 5000 hours. You need to do this replacement before the bearing gets sloppy, which will damage the stator causing additional expense.
