Coach Power Switch issue

    Old posts are over 120 days old, so I'm starting a new post.  I retrieved my 2006 Monterey from storage a couple of days ago and the Coach Power switch doesn't appear to be working.  I released the lock and pushed the bottom of the switch and the light comes on.  When I release the switch, the light goes back off and there is no power to the coach.  I repeated this multiple times with the same result.  I suspect the switch is worn out but I could be wrong.  Is this an issue with the switch or the relay it operates?

Most likely the problem is with the relay.  If your is like mine, the relay is attached to the wall of the compartment that contains the Bird and Big Boy (above your batteries).  The relays commonly fail, so many people just bypass them and connect both side cables onto the same side, therefor bypassing the "salesman switch" located by the front door.

You can test it easily enough. Go to the Coach Power Relay in the back, and see if you power on both big terminals when the dash switch is On. (One big terminal is always hot and other is only hot when the dash switch is On). If you need/want to by-pass the Relay, just put both cables on the same big terminal.

The switch will also go bad. I lost 1 each on my  Marquis and Contessa.

Bypass that thing!  It can cause more trouble than it's worth.  On our Monterey it would turn of the fridge!  Bump that switch on the way out the door and refrigerator disaster can strike!

For what it's worth, it is a marvelous device for when the rig is on a lot full of other rigs being shown.  With a small solar panel the batteries can remain charged while that switch is off.  Then, flipping that switch, makes it easy to turn on all the lights to show potential buyers.  Ever wonder why the solar panel was so small?  It was not there for you.  It was there so the salesman could show the rig with that switch.

A royal pain. The switch in my 2006 Monterey would not lock on any more.  The plastic locking tab was worn off.  I spent lots of time researching who made the switch and where to buy it.  Couldn’t get an exact replacement so I got one similar and had to do some re-wiring.  It worked for a couple of days and then the relay quit.  Took me some time to figure out what the exactly the issue was.  Does anyone know where to get a replacement?  For now I just have the relay wired out.  I may just leave it this way.

It's a Carling switch but I don't have the part#. You may be able to ID it by goggleing Carling Rocker Switch. BCS has them but be sure to tell them the # of terminals on the back as they have a couple of variations.

Big Boy relay is made by Intellitec and can easily be taken apart, contacts (large copper washers) clean and reassembled. Ask me how I know......!
