Ceiling Fan
« on: September 05, 2019, 02:02:10 AM »
So we have the 12V ceiling fan and recently it quit working.
I looked up the wiring diagram and the wire color codes dont match the diagram.  This makes it very difficult to do a continuous unity check up to the switch and then to the fixture.
The diagram also says the fan is on the F9 fuse node with the door bell but that is a 2 amp fuse and dang if I can figure why the 6amp draw fan would be on the 2 amp fuse not to mention the 18 ga. Wire at the fuse block but a 14 ga. Wire at the switch and fan.  Looks like the factory just ignored the schematic on this.
All that said there is supposed to be a power line from the fuse block feeding the switch and then a high and low side going to the fan itself.  There is no power to the switch but there are no blown fuses in F block.
The Wife wont let me use a hand grenade so suggestions are appreciated.  So far the only good part is the Bourbon.

Forgot to mention that the 07 wiring diagrams are in the Steve Huber library if someone wants a look.

Keith,
The ceiling fan dwg shows the fan is a 1.2A load. Due to the relative short distance between the fuse and the fan switch, a 2 amp fuse is sufficient. Don't worry to much about wire color. If fuse is good, check for voltage at the switch and be sure you have a a good meter ground. You should have 12v on the switch center terminal all the time and 12v on the other terminal with a wire on it when the switch is on. If you have 12v on the fuse and not at the switch, there could be a bad connection at the wire connector between the fuse block and the switch.

Thanks Steve
Yeah the power at the switch was dead and everywhere else.  I was going by the F9 fuse as indicated and the wire colors.  I also checked all other fuses and blocks and all were good.  There is another fuse in a different location with two blue wires and those 14 ga.  That was the one.    Got it working.  Also you are right about the 2amp fuse.

Glad you got it working. Where was the other fuse located?
