Title: Temp gage
Post by: Mike McGill on March 02, 2021, 05:33:04 PM
We have a 2004 Beaver Monteray Cat C9. Recently the check engine light came on more then once and the coach goes into get home safe mode. We ran the diagonist on the engine and have replaced the throttle sensor by the gas peddle and replaced the atmosphere sensor as well. Once again the check engine came on The only thing that looks out of order is the water tempter gage on the dash board fluctuates 30 to 40 degrees. The engine runs fine after a few minutes. In short when the check engine lights come on we lose power.

Mike,
Ignore the dash gauge. It's for "entertainment only". Rely on your Aladdin or Silverleaf as they get info directly from the engine ECU. Do you know what engine temp was being reported when the problem occurred?

Hi Steve Im not with the coach currently to see the numbers on the gage. But according to the dash gage it never over heated it would just go up a bit then back down.

Up a bit and down a bit are normal as your coach has to go up an incline and down a decline, respectively.  We rarely see our Aladdin screen show the engine above 205F on steep inclines unless the outside temperature is over 100F.  Our understanding is that seeing over 230F is reason to become concerned.

Im not sure if the Dash temp gage is the real issue. The real problem is the check engine light comming on and the
coach going into the save or coast mode.

Mike,
Do you know what codes the diagnostic check displayed? If not you can read the codes following the procedure in your owners manual. We don't have an 04 manual but the procedure is on pgs 377-378 in the 05 Monterey owners manual in Coach Assist. It's in the Chassis Electrical section.
