Title: FUEL DISCOUNT CARD FREE
Post by: Anthony Pewonski on September 20, 2019, 12:30:46 AM
TSD RV fuel program. Watched a video from Marc and Julie Bennett, RV LOVE about a free discount card for RV Fuel, just signed up, looks like a great way to save a lot of money fueling up. Takes 7 to 10 days to get a card, will let you know when mine comes and see what savings are. You should watch the video.

FMCA also offers a fuel discount card from TCS.

Keep in mind it’s not a discount card per say. It’s a account with TSD . A primarily trucking firm that negotiated lower bulk fuel prices. TSD via the EFS payment card withdraws the amount the following day from your checking account. I’m fine with this but some are suspicious and won’t give access to their checking account for immediate withdrawals. They won’t use a credit card it must be your checking account.
The discount is best evidently at Loves who in my experience are the highest prices to start with, but your getting 40-50 cents. That gets a pretty good price . I think The pilot flying j prices are actually better using pilots own monthly debit of your account plan that’s connected with good Sam ( not the good Sam discount , the actual pilot credit card )
I haven’t used it yet but the card is in my mail drop waiting for my trip south in November.

I have the "Pilot Flying-J" RV-Plus card (through Good Sam Club). I just completed a 2,400 mile trip and used that card. Pump prices were $2.97/gal and $3.01 in GA,  $2.95/gal in VA, $3.51/gal in PA. My Pilot App says I saved $.08 a gallon. I'm not sure if that is a good savings/deal or if I'm paying a lot more than $.08 for the convenience of the Pilot truck stops.

BTW, truck stops are easy to get in and out of (which is why I use them) but every one I used has dirty pump handles and leave your hands a mess, plus the high volume pumps are way to fast for my coach and I ended up having to hold the nozzle at the slowest speed to keep the fuel flowing (even the first notch for the handle lock was too fast).

I have used a triangle shaped piece of 1/8 inch plywood I keep inside the filler door to slide into the pump handle with infinite adjustments. In fact if I remember correctly I think I got one of them at a Beaver rally a few years ago. Sometimes the first click on a 60 gallon per minute pump is still to much.
Something I did when a truck driver that’s followed me is keep a pair of leather work gloves and slip on work shoes at the door and I wear them anytime I’m checking or filling fuel etc No more oily hands or tracking oil in past the front landing.

When you consider that it is 8 cents off the cash price it is a decent savings!

I would be very interested in how much you end up saving with the TSD Discount Card. I have the Flying J card and many times the costs at the other stations in the same town make it less expensive to go there as opposed to the $.08 you save with them.

Please keep us all in the loop.

I just used my TSD card for first time and so far I like it. Local Loves pump price at truck islands was $3.29/gal. Just got my statement from TSD and actual price after discount was $2.66/gal. Also like the convenience of the card. You swipe at the pump and pump as much fuel as you need. No more going in to the counter to get your CC validated before pumping.

I recently used my TSD card on trip to Tennessee and saved at least .45 per gallon on fillips at Loves truck stops.  Their appl shows savings.   Pilot discounts aren’t as good.   Receipt was already printed out and waiting for you when i went inside, if you want one.

the TCS program from FMCA appears to be a  prepaid cash card program which employs a 90 day dormant fee. In all fairness, the fee can be avoided by placing your account on hold. TCS claims availability at approximately 1,100 locations. The fuel stations are only visible to members making analysis of locations difficult without joining.

The TSD program works alot like a debit card with an immediate withdrawal from your checking account. If this is a concern, i suggest adding a second checking account and maintaining a lower balance in this secondary checking account. transferring funds into the secondary account , as needed. The TSD card is accepted @ more than 14,000 locations in North America.

TSD took 3 days to debit my checking acct. Their literature says 2-3 days.

In my case the account was debited within 24 hours when i used the card at a flying J in Florida. However, until we have used the card for several months i dont think I will have a clear picture on billing.

We have had our TSD Logistics card from EFS since mid summer. Its quite simple. apply at TSDlogistics.com. They will call you back and request your SS#. not a problem for me. This is how they ensure they get paid as it is they who are in fact paying for your fuel. They want their money when the bill comes due.

In the mail you will receive the EFS fuel card with instructions how to link your checking/savings account. This is essentaily a debit transaction like any other.

When you complete fueling you will receive an email with the transaction details. this does not reflect the discount. and the discount is not shown at the pump. that is available if you want through the phone APP. The official discount will arrive 24-72 hours via an email. My bank has taken up to 7 days on occasion to debit my account.

fueling is quite simple. swipe your card and follow the prompts. no going inside and no leaving your CC at the fuel desk. That is a problem for me. If you want a receipt that will require a trip inside. then off you go. they have a great APP for the fuel card with a search function. we drove from Delaware to AZ in October over 11 days. we fueled 5 times i think and strictly at Love's. our savings was $180 if i remember correctly. No other discount out there will even come close. additionally, the Loves discount was significantly higher than Pilot/TA/Petro etc. There is no annual fee and no time out.

i swipe my loves card and next year after another 400 gallons I think Ann gets a free cup of coffee. :)

anyway, just a report from a very satisfied user.

What Ken said......and:

I received my EFS card in mid Sept, a couple days before we left on our round trip from Spokane to So AZ. Bottom line is we saved a tad over $200 on our fuel stops.

Our first stop was in Boardman, Oregon at Loves. Unknowing of their process as an Oregon station my EFS card wouldn’t work at the pump. I went inside and they said all of their truck lanes were set up for PUC diesel. They ran my card and everything worked. One thing I find really ok about Loves is your receipt is in a slot on the fuel desk that corresponds with the pump number. Makes for quick in an out of the store.

A look at diesel prices , that they update daily most of the time, just for info:

Loves in Post Falls, Id, discounts diesel 91 cents per gallon, Flyin J, across the street discounts .80. The two Flyin J stations in Spokane are discounting .80. those two stations are always in the mid to high $3 range. Montana stations usually have lower prices anyway. Loves in Missoula gives .18.

Once you join up you get the daily fuel price updates across the country. The EFS app logs your most recent activity and I think it resets the end of a month. The activity is then transferred to “account activity” in the app. Tap on one of your stops and you will see your total discount.

This is nothing to sneeze at…….and it’s free to join up…in the process they will tell you they will take $200 from your account for cash if you should need cash at a fuel stop. The cash is always yours for you to use.

TSD Logistics is apparently the fuel broker. EFS takes 10% of your fuel savings as their profit. EFS is the card company.

And, it pays to shop around. the discounts are not always the same even within a specific company or state..

Seems like Pilot has stepped up their discounts from early summer. Good news. If I get a great price I will fuel earlier.

Always a good excuse for a rest and stretch.

We used the fuel discount card on our recent trip from home (CHARLESTON SC) TO Sanibel Island, FL.  We filled up twice , 54 and 62 gallons, at pump price of $3,18, with discount, price came out to $2.71 per gallon at Love Truck Stops. Trip was 1200 miles total.   Still need to top off at locate stations, diesel $2.79.

Hi guys out there who use the discount fuel card.  Is the card just a discount card and not a credit card?  I'd like to get the discount card and not have to use  it as a credit card.  If you have the card does it show where one can use it or do you have to go on line to find the locations?

   Hi Mandy,
I just got mine in the mail today and will give it a try next week. According to TSD, they request payment from your checking account approx. 3 days after using it. I'll let you know how it works out. Fred

Mandy,
The TSD card is kind of like a debit card in that it debits your checking account for fuel purchases. It is only good for buying diesel fuel and DEF at participating dealers. Additionally it will allow you to get $200 from your account at the truck stop if  you need cash. Most of the major truck stop chains are participating, i.e. Loves, Petro, Pilot/Flying J, TA, etc. When you get your card you can check out all the locations by state. Loves gives the best discounts. I fueled at Loves twice and paid $2.66 vs $3.29 once and $2.71 vs $3.25. At TA I paid $2.70 vs 3.15 posted pump price.

Mandy,
It is a debit card.  It uses the high volume of RV'ers to purchase diesel fuel at truck stops.  You must use the truck lanes.  On our trip from Houston to Phoenix, we saved over $100 on our 3 fill-ups.  There is an app you use to determine locations and costs (approximate, since they are based on the last person who used the card at the stop and the price of diesel when that person purchased fuel).  We were given an account of purchase about 15 minutes after our purchase and a final bill when they debited our account.  The difference was about 1% more for the debit, so that is the way they make money, I guess.

Hi I just read an article in RVtravel that indicates that this card will not have a discount for fuel for rvs at Pilot/ flying J.

Good Sam tells Pilot/Flying J to end big diesel discounts to RVers
In last Sunday’s issue we sang the praises of the TSD RV Fuel Program, whereby members receive substantial discounts on diesel fuel purchases when fueling up at network truck stops. What we didn’t anticipate was the uproar from the Good Sam Club after our story appeared. Good Sam demanded the TSD discount be disallowed at Pilot/Flying J locations because it conflicted with its own exclusive program. Sadly for RVers, it comes up way short in saving them money.

Can anyone confirm if they have had an issue.

Post by: William Jordan on March 10, 2020, 02:22:59 PM
There is no issue. The card just will no longer give a discount at p/fj locations any longer. Pilot wasn’t happy that TSD logistic was reselling the discount to RVers .. good Sam complaints or other reasons are not especially clear. The system uses a EFS fuel card used by many trucking companies  It still works ( with discounts ) at several other locations they have discounts at with loves being one of the best deals at 40-60 or more cents off. Now remember however that Loves  starts out at a higher price than other stations in the area but still nets a considerable savings I saved over my normal gas buddy Search prices over 150$ , over 200  on Loves actual prices. On my Oregon to Florida trip this year
One correction is it isn’t a “debit card” per say .. it’s a ACH withdrawal from your checking account that you give them access to. Much like I did with the water company back home. Look up ACH Withdrawals for clarity. Some folks are nervous about giving that access , I’m not.
EFS bills TSD Logistics ( A trucking company logistics company ) and they in turn “ACH”  Your checking account 2-3 days later upcharging 10% of the savings from listed pump price as their cut.
Google up TSD Logistics in Texas for all the details
I have been using it since October with no issues. They now have a online application. They will want your SS number so if you stiff them they can come after you.

   Folks,
Here is the follow up that I spoke of after using the card for the first time. I filled up at the Love's in Benson AZ. It was about 2 weeks ago and the posted price of diesel out front and the RV pump was $3.15 a gallon. The posted price at the truck lane for cash only was $2.98 a gallon. I used the truck lane for debit/credit cards. I put in 75 gallons and used the TSD card. When I checked my account 5 days later they charged me $191.00 for the 75 gallons. Savings from the RV lane price is $45.25. Savings from the cash truck lane is $32.50. It's real my friends!
Draw backs include messy environment when you step out, Pump handles that you can't even "click on low" so you have hang onto to control the flow. Overall experience: it was worth the $45.25 savings.
Here is the phone# to get the application, be patient because it is a hit and miss process with one lady answering the phone: 800-275 5089. Just sharing the good news, Fred

In another forum, I read that Pilot/Flying J no longer accepts the TSD fuel card, after Good Sam decided to enforce their discount program against Pilot/Flying J. It seems that Good Sam's 8 cent discount agreement with Pilot is exclusive, and they gave the ultimatum to Pilot-Our way or the Highway; and Pilot went with Good Sam. Another reason to avoid Pilot.

At the risk of being found out by Good Sam, no where on the application did it ask if you are driving an RV. And I doubt the teller inside will take note.

So, I’m thinking somewhat what Jerry states. May try one Pilot/J just to see what if anything transpires. At worst, you pay regular price.

Jeff ,Jerry  it’s my understanding that TSD. Lost their discount price for reselling to RVers but the loss applies to all their business , trucks included. They had no discount agreement  at all prior to November and just started then. Evidently TSD contract trucks didn’t use P/Fj prior so I doubt it’s that big a loss. Keep in mind TSD while a good size logistics company is comparatively pretty small in the commercial fuel business.

From TSD's webs site, dated 11/6/19:
"As of the end of the week, Pilot is officially retracting their discounts from our program due to their relationship with Good Sams. Good Sams has an exclusive contract with Pilot which prevents them from giving any discounts to the RV community through any other means. Every other discount is still in place."

An update:

Used the card at 3 Loves on my travels home from the Rio Grande Valley. The discounts were substantial, although not the same rate, I.e. discount per gallon varied. Nevertheless on 329.2 gals purchased @ these 3 Loves, I saved $216.27. This is after all charges and fees incurred and processed by the bank.

Very substantial....and on the upside, especially these days, I didn’t have to go inside as info is on app and emailed.

If I would have planned a bit better, ie. fueled in Sioux City, I could have used another Loves at Fargo, ND and I would have saved more - I had to use an outlet that didn’t accept the card. Winds and the great mileage the C13 gets would have meant rolling into Fargo on 10-15% of a tank which is too low for my comfort zone.
